The Estepona City Council reports that a total of 3,000 students have participated so far this year in the new edition of the ‘Road Safety Education Program’, which is taught in kindergarten and primary schools. The aim of this initiative is to instill in the little ones guidelines, tips and useful teachings related to Road Safety, familiarize them with the environment, and raise awareness of the importance of respecting the rules of the road so that their behavior on the streets is carried out correctly and safely for themselves and for the rest of the users, with emphasis on the correct use of electric scooters (VMP) in older children.
The program began in December and has been developed during school hours in a total of 17 schools in the town by Carlos Coronil, an agent of the Local Police Headquarters in Estepona. The program covers two educational stages. Once completed the cycle of Infant and 4th and 6th grade of Primary, the program will continue from April in the Institutes with the students of Secondary and other primary grades until the end of the school year.
The Deputy Mayor of the Sociocultural Area, Paula Herrera, has highlighted the importance of this type of educational programs, given that “the infant stage is a favorable period for the creation of habits, behaviors and road values that will have a positive impact on the development of a safer mobility”.
