The colorful work of international artist Manuel León stars in the new open-air exhibition on Terraza Street.

The procession goes inside’ makes a tour of the creation of this renowned painter, and has an unpublished work for exhibition in Estepona. The exhibition can be visited until February 10 next year.

The Estepona Town Hall, within the program ‘Estepona lives its streets in autumn, has inaugurated a new outdoor exhibition in Terraza street, which allows an approach to the work of the renowned Sevillian artist Manuel Leon. Today, his is one of the most prominent names in contemporary painting in our country, with a long list of exhibitions in museums and contemporary art galleries around the world.

The artist arrives in Estepona with the colorful exhibition ‘La procesión va por dentro’, composed of 17 totems printed with images of his creative work; among them, one created especially for this exhibition.

For more than 20 years, Manuel León has been developing his professional career in galleries and international art fairs. His artistic practice intersects with other disciplines such as music, performance or dance.

‘La procesión va por dentro’, which can be visited at Terraza Street until February 10 next year, the artist shows a journey through his own work, in a journey where the painting is affirmed as a device of thought and as a space to question reality. It is a narrative that dialogues with the history of painting, vindicating its validity and its power of interpretation.

The journey through the 17 works on display is tinged with humor and nods to comics and illustrated satire, but without losing its roots in the Andalusian baroque narrative. The freshness and color characteristic of much of the creation of this artist are present in this exhibition, in which each image invites to stop, to look and to discover in the painting a new critical, ironic and human mirror.

The exhibition includes a work created specifically for his stay in Estepona. It is ‘STOP, parada y fonda’, an original self-portrait of the author that must be discovered.

Manuel León is currently working with important galleries such as Yusto & Giner (Madrid-Marbella), Rarity Gallery (Greece) and Verduyn Gallery (Belgium). In his multidisciplinary facet he has developed projects with artists such as Niño de Elche, Rocío Márquez, Pony Bravo, Rafa Almarcha, or the dance company Mopa.

With the writer Jacobo Bergareche he has presented the project El Simposio, at the Botín Foundation in Santander, initiated at the Royal Academy of Spain in Rome.

Among the long list of national and international admirers of his work is the soccer player Sergio Ramos, who has several of his creations.
