The City Council will name international artist Juan Miguel Quiñones as Adopted Son of Estepona.

Throughout his career, the sculptor has created a wide range of works that are part of the artistic and cultural heritage of the city. He currently has an exhibition at the Mirador del Carmen Cultural Center, which includes a selection of 180 original marble sculptures.

The Estepona City Council wants to recognize the professional career of Juan Manuel Quiñones, an artist of international renown, raised and with a long career in Estepona. Therefore, the municipal plenary to be held tomorrow will approve a proposal of the Councillor for Citizen Participation, Maria Aguilar, for his appointment as Adopted Son of the city.

Quiñones, born in Vejer de la Frontera, grew up, was formed and built his personal and professional life in Estepona, becoming a cultural reference of the city. His career has been highly praised by international art critics, who have defined his work as “a sensitive archeology of an era, a territory and a memory shared by those who have inhabited or walked through this landscape”.

In recent years, his work has transcended borders, being exhibited in various galleries and art fairs in the United States, Europe and China. His practice, deeply rooted in matter and gesture, has captivated in international contexts, confirming the power of his sculptural language.

Throughout his career, Juan Manuel Quiñones has created a wide range of works that are part of the artistic and cultural heritage of Estepona and other parts of Andalusia. Among them are emblematic pieces that reflect his deep love for the human figure, nature and the traditions of our land. His work combines technique, feeling and a deeply human look.

Among his most outstanding works is the sculpture ‘Dracula’, a frozen pole of several tons of marble that reflects his ability to transform the everyday into large-format art. Likewise, his exhibition ‘Al Origen’, which can be visited at the Centro Cultural del Carmen until December 14, brings together nearly 180 sculptures that evoke the memory of summer and childhood, consolidating his recognition as an innovative and creative artist.

“In parallel, his closeness, his affable character and his sense of humor have made him a beloved figure by his neighbors and by all those who know him. Juan Manuel Quiñones has always carried the name of Estepona with pride, acting as a true ambassador of our city, and projecting its cultural values beyond our borders,” the proposal states.

Therefore, “for his contribution to art, his career and his constant link with this land,” it will be proposed to the Plenary of the Corporation the adoption of the agreement to grant Juan Manuel Quiñones the title of Adopted Son of Estepona, and that such appointment is carried out in the institutional act to be held on the occasion of the Day of the Constitution.
