Botanical-Orchidarium Park reaches record number of visits since its opening and 27% more users than last year
The space is consolidated as one of the main tourist attractions in Estepona and between January and July recorded 6,665 more entries than in the same period of 2023.
The Botanical-Orchidarium Park has established itself as one of the main tourist attractions of the city and continues to increase the number of visitors year after year, reaching record figures so far in 2024. The number of visitors registered between January and July of this year is almost 27% higher than in the same period last year.
Specifically, during the first seven months of 2024, the site has received a total of 31,429 visitors, compared to 24,764 in the same period of 2023. In total, 6,665 more users, having reached record numbers during all the months.
If at the close of last year 2023 the number of visits exceeded 45,000 for the first time, reaching 45,600, the figures that are being handled during the first seven months of this 2024 augur a new record.
This municipal facility is one of the most important stops on the routes that visitors to the city design during their stay, and one of the attractions most valued by the neighbors. The majority of users are from Spain. Among them are also counted those registered in Estepona, to whom the City Council grants two invitations per year. European citizens also stand out, with the most numerous visits from Germans, French, English, Finns, Italians, Swedes and Swiss. Also of note in the records are the visits of citizens from the American continent, especially from the United States, although this year there has been a significant increase in the number of Argentinean users. The number of Chinese and Moroccans is also growing, although to a lesser extent.
Last year the period of maximum affluence was in the spring season, coinciding with the flowering season of many of the species housed, followed by the months of August, September and October, high season for tourism. However, in this year 2024 there has been a significant increase in visits in the month of February and in July the number of visits recorded in the same month of 2023 has almost doubled. So far this year, all months – except January – have surpassed the number of visits recorded last year.
The Botanical-Oquidarium Park of Estepona is in constant transformation, has more than 3,000 species of plants, of which more than 1,500 are orchids. It was inaugurated in 2015, it is divided into two levels that are at different heights, with an area of 1,000 square meters and 15,000 cubic meters of volume. The building has three glass-covered domes that have become its hallmark and have completely changed the physiognomy of the municipality. The main dome of the building houses dozens of species of orchids and a large waterfall that surprises visitors who observe the dome from the inside.
Outside, it has a large green lung of more than 15,000 square meters in the heart of the city. The execution of this project allowed the complete transformation of this space, providing it with this unique facility and this large park that are part of the sustainable urban development project ‘Estepona, garden of the Costa del Sol’.
The objectives of the Estepona Orchidarium are, on the one hand, the conservation of its botanical collection, and on the other hand, its cultural projection through the promotion of information, communication and promotion of the botanical heritage of the City of Estepona through individual or group visits, with the character of a municipal public service of general interest.
