Estepona City Council commemorates the ‘International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women’.

The official ceremony took place today with a tribute to the victims of gender violence and the awards ceremony of the XXV Poster Contest ‘November 25’.

The mayor of Estepona, José María García Urbano, today chaired the institutional act on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

The alderman explained that from the City Council and the municipal delegation of Women will continue to work to contribute to this social scourge is eradicated. In this regard, has highlighted the psychological, legal and employment guidance provided from the municipal level to women who need help as victims of this crime.

During the event, which was held in the Plaza Antonia Guerrero and in which high school students of the city have participated, the first mayor has pointed out the importance of the new generations become aware of this issue. “It is essential that our young people know that there are certain models of relationships that must disappear from our society,” García Urbano has continued explaining.

In this regard, note that the City Council has started this month, in schools, the tenth edition of Project ‘Observa’, a program aimed at students in 1st ESO, with the aim of training young people in equality and prevent gender violence.

In addition, he noted that the Consistory maintains a collaboration agreement with the Ministry of Interior to remain part of the Integrated System of Gender Violence Cases (Viogén), a program that facilitates local police officers to act quickly when such crimes are detected.

The commemoration of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women has been completed with the awards ceremony of the XXV Poster Contest ‘November 25’; a contest on violence against women in all its manifestations, which have involved a total of 74 students (57 girls and 17 boys) of secondary education IES Mediterranean, Monterroso and Professor Tomas Hormigo, and schools Juan XXIII and Atalaya. In this edition 61 works have been presented, being the winners of the contest:

1st Prize: Naomi Lisbeth Dara Ibáñez, 4th of ESO of IES Monterroso.

2nd Prize: Clara María Ríos Hidalgo and Naia Vera Paris (collective poster), from 3rd year of ESO of Atalaya School.

3rd Prize: Ainhoa Serrano Suárez, 4th of ESO of IES Profesor Tomás Hormigo

The 25N events are completed with the exhibition ‘Photography as a means of expression and overcoming. Gender Violence: prevention and awareness’ with the work done by students of the conceptual photography workshop taught by Gladys Farias in the municipal delegation of Women, and will remain at the Colegio Juan XXIII until the end of the year.

To give visibility to the 25N, throughout the week will look an allusive banner on the traffic circle of the Avenida Juan Carlos I, opposite the CEIP Ramon Garcia, and public buildings and monuments will look purple lighting.
