Estepona Town Hall organizes the largest night chess tournament for amateurs in Spain

The competition will be held on August 1 at the Paseo Marítimo and will have a maximum participation of 250 players between 6 and 90 years of age.

The activity is part of the Municipal Plan for the Promotion of Chess, which was launched as a pioneering educational experience for all students born from 2004 to receive training to learn to play.

The Estepona City Council, through the Municipal Chess School, organizes the thirty-eighth edition of the night tournament of this sport, which will take place next August 1st at the Paseo Marítimo. This is a regular activity of the summer program of the town, being the only competition for amateur participants of these characteristics which is held in Spain.

The games of the XXXVIII Chess Night Trophy ‘Ciudad de Estepona 2024’ for amateurs will be played from 20.00 to 24.00 hours, with a maximum participation of 250 players between 6 and 90 years old.

The Nocturno de Ajedrez was born from the hand of the remembered monitor of the Municipal Chess School, Miguel Abril, being one of the most multitudinous tournaments for amateurs of those organized in the country. During the last years, the event has gathered local participants and members of the Municipal School, as well as a good number of players from different parts of the Andalusian and national geography. The amateur nature of this event has made it a must for fans of this discipline.

The activity is part of the Municipal Plan for the Promotion of Chess, which was launched as a pioneer educational experience in the country, making possible that all the students born since 2004 have received training to learn how to play chess.

A total of four independent tournaments will be played: mixed categories (by year of birth):

1st Tournament: Smurfs and U-8 categories: 10 minutes per player, Swiss to 5 rounds.

2nd Tournament: U10-12 categories: 10 minutes per player, Swiss 6 rounds.

3rd Tournament: U14-16 and Senior categories: 10 minutes per player, Swiss to 7 rounds.

4th Tournament: Senior Category: Quick Tournament, 15 minutes per player, Swiss to 5 rounds.

There will be trophies for the first three classified in each category and diplomas for all participants.
