On Sunday, April 14, the Calle Real will host the XIV National Ham Cutters Contest, Trophy ‘POPI, City of Estepona’.

This activity, which is part of the program ‘Estepona lives its streets’, has established itself as a gastronomic event of great interest.
The Estepona City Council informs that next Sunday, April 14, will be held on Real Street the fourteenth edition of the National Ham Cutters Contest ‘Popi, City of Estepona’.
The activity, framed in the event ‘Estepona lives its streets’, will bring together from 12.00 to 16.00 hours to a total of six participants: Felipe Gil Carcaboso, from Cáceres; Eduardo Barrero, from Cáceres; Yolanda Medina, from Marbella; Miguel García, from San Pedro Alcántara; José Miguel Marín, from Yunquera, and Salvador Glauder, from Algeciras.
The contestants must demonstrate their expertise when cutting a ham while the jury will evaluate, among other aspects, the style of the cutter, the plating or that participants are able to cut, by eye, portions of 100 grams of ham.
The jury will be formed by Alejandro Berzosa, from Málaga; Pedro Mora, from Chiclana; and Sonia Sánchez, from Maracena; under the direction of Juan Carlos Meléndez, from Estepona.
In addition to contemplate the mastery of the cutters of this national competition, attendees will be able to taste the participating dishes. They will also learn firsthand the technique necessary to cut ham or how to present it on a plate in an aesthetically pleasing way.
The deputy mayor of the Sociocultural Area, Paula Herrera, stressed that this contest has become a tourist attraction for the city and an activity that promotes the consumption of one of the star products of our cuisine.
The contest is organized jointly by the City Council of Estepona and José María Téllez ‘Popi’, with the sponsorship of the Provincial Council of Malaga, through the promotional brand ‘Sabor a Málaga’.
