The City Council carries out a campaign for the prevention of the effects of heat aimed at senior citizens
The care advice is mainly intended for users of the Telecare Service, as older people are more sensitive to high temperatures.
Estepona City Council reports on the new information campaign that is being carried out to raise awareness among users of the Telecare Service and people who are responsible for their care, of the measures to be taken to deal with the effects of high temperatures in order to avoid heat stroke and prevent the adverse effects they cause, such as heat stroke and dehydration.
The deputy mayor of the Sociocultural area, Paula Herrera, explained that, through this initiative, the company Tunstall Televida, which manages the Telecare Service, reports for several weeks, in a personalized way, on how to prevent the effects of heat to this sector of the population especially vulnerable.
Among the general recommendations in the face of high temperatures are: avoid letting the heat and the sun into the house, lower the blinds during the hottest hours, stay in the coolest areas of the house, do not use appliances that can produce heat, and cool off continuously.
It is also recommended to maintain a good level of hydration by drinking plenty of water, avoiding the consumption of alcoholic beverages or limiting those containing caffeine or large amounts of sugar; consuming foods with a high water content, such as fruits and vegetables; drinking water when getting up to facilitate intestinal motility; and drinking water to facilitate food intake.
Other advice consists of avoiding outdoor activities during the central hours of the day, seeking shade and resting frequently, and going out properly protected with sunscreen, a hat or cap, light-colored, lightweight clothing, and wearing comfortable, breathable footwear.
