The City Council carries out improvement and maintenance works in schools during White Week.

Work will range from the replacement of a roof, to the creation of a ramp, repairs of cracks and stairs, as well as painting work.

The City Council of Estepona will perform during the non-school days for the celebration of White Week almost a dozen improvement and maintenance actions in schools in the municipality. From the municipal delegation of Children and Education has been requested to the municipal brigades to carry out such interventions taking advantage of the absence of schoolchildren in the centers, which facilitates its faster execution without causing inconvenience.

Thus, the program of works of the brigade of works and maintenance includes an important action in the CEIP García Lorca, where it will be carried out the integral arrangement of the north cover by the filtration of rainwater. For this purpose, the entire roof has been lifted to install a new waterproofing. On the other hand, a ramp will be built at the entrance to the secretary’s office area for access by people with disabilities at CEIP Ramón Lago.

Within the works section, the repair of cracks and the construction of a wall at CEIP Antonio Machado has also been programmed, as well as the repair of the staircase leading up to the Guidance Team Office (EOE) at CEIP Ramón García, with the repair of the handrail.

Regarding the painting brigade, the planned works will focus on the painting of several offices, the teachers’ room and the stairs in the administration area of the CEIP Simón Fernández. Likewise, a classroom ceiling, a corridor and the entire staircase area of the Guidance Team Office (EOE) at CEIP Ramón García will be painted.

At CEIP Gloria Fuertes, the painting of the locksmith’s work in the classroom area and the rock climbing wall façade is planned; and at CEIP García Lorca, the painting of the ceiling due to humidity in the upper classroom of the north building.

Since the beginning of the current academic year 2023/2024, the City Council has undertaken numerous works of painting, masonry, locksmithing or structures, including the installation of shaded areas in outdoor recreation areas in schools. Specifically, pergolas and awnings have been installed in the schools García Lorca, Víctor de la Serna, Valeriano López, Sierra Bermeja and Santo Tomás de Aquino. Two pergolas have been installed in the first four schools. In the case of CEIP Santo Tomás, a pergola with its corresponding awning has been installed. In total, 15,300 euros have been invested in these actions.

The Consistory is currently studying projects for the installation of new protective awnings in other schools in the municipality.

These actions, as well as those carried out during the summer months, are part of the comprehensive maintenance work of the schools carried out by the Consistory, which is mostly focused on painting, masonry, locksmithing and plumbing, as well as the conservation of electrical and fire protection installations.

The City Council is responsible for the maintenance of schools throughout the year, reaching over a thousand actions. In fact, work in schools and kindergartens represents almost a third of the actions carried out by the municipal operational brigades throughout the city.
