The City Council commemorates with young people the ‘International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women’.

The mayor presided over the event in which students from the city’s five secondary schools participated.

The mayor of Estepona, José María García Urbano, today chaired the institutional event to commemorate the ‘International Day of Violence against Women’. As every year, students from five secondary schools in the city have participated in this activity which aims to raise awareness about the importance of eradicating gender violence in our society.

The alderman thanked the young people who have participated in the various activities organized by the City Council on the occasion of November 25. In that sense, he has indicated that the involvement of new generations is essential to achieve equality and combat a social scourge such as violence against women.

During the event, a minute’s silence was observed for the women victims and the commemorative manifesto was read in three languages.

This year, the manifesto recalled that every 10 minutes a woman is murdered in the world, so we must continue to mobilize all members of society against this alarming escalation of violence.

Finally, we have proceeded to the awards ceremony of the XXVI Poster Contest ‘November 25’, a contest on violence against women in all its manifestations, which involved a total of 154 students (122 girls and 32 boys) of secondary education of the five IES of the town. In this edition 150 works have been presented.

The jury was formed by the councilor attached to the delegation of Women, Julia Simon, the teacher of Drawing and Painting of the municipal delegation of Culture, Rocio Garin, Maria del Mar Perez Tuda and Julian Salas Prado, deputy inspectors of Citizen Participation and UFAM, respectively, of the National Police; and Florencio Benítez López, representing the Integral System of Gender Violence Cases (Viogén), a program that facilitates Local Police officers to act quickly when this type of crime is detected.

The winners of the XXVI ‘Certamen de carteles 25 de noviembre’ have been the following:

First prize: Iker Ramos Serrano, 4th grade B of IES Puerta del Mar.

Second prize: Claudia Bellido Morales, 4th B of IES Mediterráneo.

Third prize: Julia Pereira Martín and Mustafá Islam Charkaoui El Meghary. 1st E of IES Mediterráneo.

Special mention: Andrea López Moral, 4th B of IES Puerta del Mar.

On the other hand, the City Council has started this month in the institutes of the town the eleventh edition of the Project ‘Observa’, aimed at students in 1st ESO, with the aim of training young people in equality and prevent gender violence.

The 25N anniversary is completed with the photographic exhibition ‘Photography as a means of expression and overcoming. Gender Violence: prevention and awareness’, with snapshots taken by students of the conceptual photography workshop taught by Gladys Farias, which will remain in the CEIP Ramón García.
