The City Council inaugurates this Saturday a new green lung of 16,500 square meters in Las Mesas
La Hermandad Park has green and landscaped areas, reinforcing the project ‘Estepona, Garden of the Costa del Sol’; in addition to squares, bleachers, playgrounds and an artificial lake. It is located in one of the fastest growing areas of the city, north of the Port of Estepona, between the streets Latvia and Tres Banderas.
Estepona City Council informs that this Saturday will be inaugurated the Parque de La Hermandad, a new green lung of 16,500 square meters in the area of Las Mesas.
This new public facility, which reinforces the project ‘Estepona, Garden of the Costa del Sol’, is located in one of the areas that is experiencing greater growth in the city, specifically, within the urban core, north of the Port of Estepona, between the streets Latvia and Tres Banderas.
The mayor of Estepona has pointed out that this new green lung demonstrates the interest of the Consistory to improve the quality of life of its neighbors, expanding the number of parks and public spaces of interest.
The inauguration of the Parque de La Hermandad is named in recognition of the work of social cohesion carried out by the various brotherhoods of Holy Week in our city.
For the opening of the new green area, the City Council has organized a children’s party to be held from 11.30 to 14.30 hours. There will be face painting, a Christmas photocall, bouncy castles, animation workshops, storytelling and a snow cannon, among other activities.
With this new park, the City Council has given value to a plot of land that was in disuse and where there was an old reservoir for water storage. For it, the work has included -in a first phase- the filling and conditioning of the old reservoir, using the lands coming from the annexed excavation of the new reservoir of Las Mesas, built by Hidralia. Thus, instead of transferring these soils to the landfill, they were reused to fill the old reservoir and prepare the area to undertake the execution of the second phase of construction of the park.
This new ‘green lung’ has an area of 16,500 square meters, most of which are green and landscaped areas, which reinforces the project ‘Estepona, Garden of the Costa del Sol’. It also has squares, bleachers, playgrounds and an artificial lake.
Also, native species, shrubs, perennials, ground cover and climbers have been planted in an approximate area of 3,700 square meters, which represents 32% of the soft landscaped area. The distribution of these has been made taking into account the existing free spaces in each area of land designed for specific planting, between lakes and slope areas and the rest of the naturalized area.
The objective of the planting of shrubs and other species is to provide naturalness, color and greater coverage of the natural terrain. Likewise, forest areas have been designed on the steep slopes facing east and southeast, whose composition has been those of Mediterranean tree planting for greater soil coverage and to prevent surface erosion. Other species such as palms and related species have also been planted in the wetter areas.
On the other hand, the artificial lake has been configured in four levels. These levels are joined by three waterfalls in the form of a one-meter waterfall to bridge the approximate difference in height (from the beginning to the end) of 4 meters. The lake also has two sets of water and a water supply in the upper parts to induce a laminar cascade in the different waterfalls.
