The City Council organizes more than thirty cultural and leisure activities to celebrate Christmas

The holiday program will begin tomorrow, December 1, with the lighting of the Christmas lights and will end with the traditional Cavalcade of the Three Kings on January 5.

The Felipe VI Auditorium will be one of the main stages that will host a variety of performances, including tributes to Queen and Mecano or the concert of Falete.

Estepona City Council today presented the more than 30 cultural, festive and leisure activities organized to celebrate Christmas.

The deputy mayor of the Sociocultural area, Paula Herrera, and the councilor attached to the area of Fiestas, Macarena Diánez, explained that numerous events have been scheduled for the enjoyment of young and old, most of them free, in different points, cultural spaces, streets and squares of Estepona. There will be concerts, crib contests, façades, musicals, ballets, flamenco zambombás, children’s parties, solidarity events, gastronomic festivals, or the traditional New Year’s concert.

The activities will begin tomorrow, December 1, with the lighting of the Christmas lights, at 19.00 hours, on Avenida España. The event will be enlivened by the pastoral of Estepona ‘Nostalgia Christmas’ and ‘Jesus Captive’ and the songs of the little Martina Perez.

Another of the highlights for this holiday season will be the inauguration of a new green lung for the city, as is the new ‘Parque de la Hermandad’, located in the area of Las Mesas, between the streets Latvia and Tres Banderas. It has an area of 16,500 square meters. The opening ceremony will take place on Saturday, December 2, from 11:30 am, with entertainment party, bouncy castles, workshops, a Christmas photocall and an artificial snowfall.

On the other hand, the Felipe VI Auditorium will once again host a wide variety of performances for all audiences, including the show ‘Don’t touch my story’ on Saturday, December 9; the ballets ‘Sleeping Beauty’ and ‘The Nutcracker’, on Friday 8 and Sunday 10, respectively; or the ‘Great Acrobatic Circus of China’, on Monday, December 18.

In addition, this space will host several concerts and musical shows such as tributes to the bands Queen and Mecano. The first of them, by the group ‘Queen Forever Tribute’, will bring back their tour ‘We will rock you’ to the town on Saturday, December 2. Meanwhile, the tribute to the band considered the best Spanish pop band will be performed by the band ‘Aidalai’ and will take place on Friday, December 22. Another of the highlights of the Christmas program in the Felipe VI Auditorium will be the concert of the artist Falete, on Friday, December 29.

Another important moment for these weeks will be the traditional extraordinary Christmas concert that the Municipal Band will offer on Saturday, December 16, under the direction of Maestro José Antonio López Camacho, along with the Christmas Proclamation organized by the 24 Hours Sports Foundation. The town crier this year will be Antonio Aguilar Sanchez.

The performances in the Auditorium will end with the traditional ‘New Year’s Concert’, on January 4, with the Malaga Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Maestro Florian Csizmadia.

Other enclaves that will have prominence during the Christmas holidays will be the Plaza del Ajedrez and the Plaza Antonia Guerrero, which will host several events. In the first will be held the traditional ‘Santa Claus Christmas Village’, where children will be greeted by Santa Claus and have fun in the chocolate house, the Christmas train, the Santa Claus boat, with the ice rink, the crazy penguins, the artificial snowfall and much more. It will be on Saturday, December 23, from 17:00 to 21:00.

For its part, the Plaza Antonia Guerrero will host, on December 22, from 20:00 hours, the Zambomba with ‘El Sopa y Familia’, from Jerez de la Frontera, the birthplace of one of the most typical cultural and festive customs of Andalusian folklore. Access to this show will be free.

Also, as every year, returns one of the most anticipated events for citizens: the VIII Cheese Fair ‘Popi, Sabor a Málaga’, which will be on Terraza Street from 14 to 17 December.

Also, the Plaza Antonia Guerrero will host, from December 15 to January 7, the Christmas Book Fair. In addition, in this space will be held on Tuesday, December 19, the blessing and enthronement of the Child Jesus of the municipal Bethlehem. From 20:00 hours.

Christmas will also reach the outlying areas, as in Cancelada tomorrow Friday will be held the Zambombá Flamenca ‘SonDaire for Christmas’. Esteponeros musicians Samuel Velez, Javier Melero, Antonio Infantes, Alex Vargas and Julian Bedmar, come together to bring Christmas in a show in which they will present a repertoire full of flamenco carols, and own style.

On Tuesday, December 12, there will be a contest of typical Christmas sweets; and on Thursday, January 5, they will celebrate the traditional parade of the Three Wise Men. For its part, Nueva Atalaya will celebrate as every year the representation of the Living Bethlehem, which will be on Saturday, December 17, at 19.30 hours, organized by the neighborhood association San Cristobal.

The events to say goodbye to 2023 will end with the New Year’s Eve Party, which will take place once again in the Plaza del Reloj, on December 31, and will feature the distribution of cotillion, the traditional chimes to welcome the New Year and a great fireworks display.

This program of activities will culminate with the children’s party par excellence, the Three Kings. The events will begin on Wednesday, January 3, with the delivery of letters to the Royal Postman, in the Plaza Antonia Guerrero, from 17.00 to 20.00 hours, and will culminate on Friday, January 5, with the reception for the Three Kings, from 11.00 hours in the Fair Park, and with the great Cavalcade of the Three Kings that will begin from 17.00 hours.
