The City Council organizes ‘Women’s self-protection workshops with fear and stress management’ for participants of all ages

The conference will be held on Saturdays March 2 and 9, from 10:00 to 13:00 hours, at the Padre Manuel Cultural Center. The capacity is limited to 30 people, so prior registration is required, which is free, in the municipal delegation of Women.

The City Council of Estepona reports that as part of the celebration of International Women’s Day, the municipal delegation of Women will carry out in the month of March a ‘Conference of Female Self-Protection, with fear and stress management’, aimed at women of any age.

The conference consists of a workshop that will be taught by qualified technical staff, and will be held on Saturdays 2 and March 9, from 10:00 to 13:00 hours, at the Centro Cultural Padre Manuel, with the only requirement to attend with sportswear. The objective of these conferences, financed with funds from the Ministry of Equality, Secretary of State for Equality and against Gender Violence, is as simple as it is important: to know the tools to prevent an attack and to know how to react to it.

According to studies by the UN Population Forum, one out of every three women in the world suffers mistreatment or sexual abuse. In Spain there are 6,000 complaints a year, and we know that they are only a percentage of all assaults that occur, so we are talking about a social phenomenon of worrying proportions. In the words of the deputy mayor, Paula Herrara, “to be aware of this and continue working against violence against women in all its manifestations, leads us to raise actions with which to counteract this fact”.

It is important that women know the circumstances in which these aggressions occur, what strategies they can use to avoid them and what to do when they have occurred. Therefore, the final objective of these workshops is to learn techniques and measures to repel the aggression. The aim is to improve self-confidence and control stress, so physical and psychological aspects will be addressed.

Registrations, with capacity limited to 30 participants in order of reservation, can be made through the link and QR that appear on the poster. For any questions you can contact the Municipal Women’s Information Center on 952 80 47 04 or mail igualdad@estepona.es
