The City Council will dedicate a day of cultural and gastronomic activities to Italy this Saturday.
This day will be held from 19.00 to 24.00 hours in the Avenida España (next to the traffic circle of the European Union), is part of the program ‘Sharing Cultures’, which runs throughout the year and allows the foreign population to publicize their customs and traditional festivals.
The mayor of Estepona, José María García Urbano, and the deputy mayor of the Extraradio area, Begoña Ortiz, today presented the ‘Italy Day’ to be held this coming Saturday, June 15, to raise awareness of the culture, cuisine and crafts of the Italian people.
The first mayor explained that this day is part of the municipal initiative ‘Sharing Cultures’, aimed at promoting the participation of foreign residents through social and cultural activities. It will be held throughout this year and includes a calendar of events in which the foreign population can make known their customs, traditional festivals and gastronomic culture.
García Urbano has highlighted the good reception that is having this program, which began in March with St. Patrick’s Day and continued with the Day of the Foreign Resident. This weekend will be the turn of Italy and the 1,400 residents of Italian origin residing in Estepona.
It has also valued the importance of citizens of different nationalities residing in the municipality to participate in the social and cultural life of Estepona, as today represent a third of the population, with more than 135 different nationalities.
For its part, the deputy mayor of the Extraradio area has explained that the ‘Day of Italy’ will take place in the Avenida de España (next to the traffic circle of the European Union) from 19.00 to 00.00 hours. It will be an open day that will offer a cultural program in which different performances will be enjoyed.
Simona Sorrenti, Italian citizen living in Estepona and collaborator of the event has explained that, from 18.30 hours, you can visit the concentration of Vespas organized by the Vespasianos Club. About 19.00 hours will open to the public stands with typical food, wine, crafts and Italian fashion. There will also be performances by the Italian singer and music teacher Laura Raimondi, the young guitarist Francesco Fernandez, Eric Costa with Ines Hrdlickova, the Solo Flamenco school of Ana Guerrero, rock rhythms with Pregonero Band and the dance school of Martina Tessaro, who will offer typical Italian dances such as the tarantella.
Also, attendees will be able to enjoy cooking shows in which the preparation of Italian pasta and typical desserts will be shown. There will also be a fashion show by VIA VAI and Martina Tessaro and an interactive contest consisting of short questions to be asked to the audience about Italian culture and gastronomy, which will end with a raffle among the participants. Also for the little ones there will be a games corner run by Bloggeria.
