The IX ‘POPI’ Sabor a Málaga Cheese Fair opens a new edition of the event ‘Estepona lives its streets’.
Throughout the weekend there will be free activities such as musical performances by Las Migas, Dreadsistance, Beatriz Blázquez, Gonzalo Sarfatti, Deep Time, Carlos Llovet, and Tony Cultura & Cía, as well as the Musical ‘Mamá, quiero ser artista’ (Mom, I want to be an artist).
The program is completed with the Ruta de la Tapa and the XIV National Ham Cutters Contest ‘Trofeo Popi, Ciudad de Estepona’.
The IX Cheese Fair ‘Popi’ Sabor a Málaga, which runs until Sunday April 14 on Terraza Street, has opened the program of activities of the new edition of ‘Estepona lives its streets’, an event that aims to celebrate cultural and leisure activities for all audiences in different parts of the city for the enjoyment of residents and tourists.
The Cheese Fair, an initiative promoted by the Consistory and the professional ham cutter, José María Téllez ‘Popi’, which has the collaboration of Diputación de Málaga through the promotional brand ‘Sabor a Málaga’, will remain open to the public from 11.00 to 21.00 hours.
The mayor, José María García Urbano, stressed that this is a consolidated gastronomic event and encouraged residents and visitors to know this fair that was born with the aim of promoting and highlighting the high quality and variety of cheeses and dairy products made by participating companies, 80% of which come from the province of Malaga.
Although cheese is the star product of the fair, among its more than 30 points of sale there is room for other products such as nuts, wine, oil, olives, pickles or pates, so the event will be a gastronomic market. The presence of ‘Sabor a Málaga’ among gourmet products of national and international origin helps to strengthen the brand as a benchmark of quality for consumers, in addition to serving this event as a promotional tool for the municipality.
The program ‘Estepona lives its streets’ lives its tenth edition become a reference in the cultural, leisure and tourist agenda of the municipality for the varied activities offered to audiences of all ages. Thus, from tomorrow Friday until Sunday will be held various events such as the XIII Ruta de la Tapa, which will involve nearly thirty establishments, both in the center of Estepona and the suburbs, mainly Cancelada, which will offer a tapa and drink (beer, soft drink or water) for 3 euros or tapa and wine for 4 euros. It will be on Friday, from 20.00 to 23.00 hours; Saturday, from 13.00 to 16.00 and from 20.00 to 23.00 hours; and Sunday, from 13:00 to 16:00 hours.
People who make this gastronomic tour can pick up their passport at the Tourist Office in the Plaza de Las Flores, in the Mayor’s Office of Cancelada or in the participating bars and restaurants. In this way, they will be able to receive in the different establishments the five stamps necessary to vote for the best tapa. A prize of 1,000 euros will be awarded to the ‘Best Tapa’ and there will be a draw for numerous gifts among citizens who participate with their vote. Among the prizes to be raffled are hotel nights, tickets to concerts, small household appliances or gastronomic experiences, among others.
As for musical performances, you can enjoy the Cordovan band ‘Dreadsistance’, which mixes rap with other genres, which will perform on Friday at 22.00 hours in the Botanical Park Orquidario. On Saturday, at 22.00 hours in the Plaza del Ajedrez, will be the performance of the female flamenco group ‘Las Migas’, who come to Estepona with a Latin Grammy award for his latest work, ‘Libres’.
In addition, the event includes performances by Estepona dancer Beatriz Blázquez, the contestant of ‘La Voz’ Gonzalo Sarfatti, the performance of the musical group ‘Deep Time’, the show of Estepona actor Carlos Llovet, the performance of singer-songwriter Tony Cultura & Cía, in Cancelada, and the Musical ‘Mama, I want to be an artist’.
For the little ones, will be offered the party ‘Family Day’ to be held on Saturday from 12.00 to 18.00 hours in the Plaza Augusto Suarez de Figueroa and the Plaza del Reloj with games and various workshops. In addition, the Felipe VI Auditorium will host on Sunday at 12.00 pm, the family show ‘The Magic of Life’ against childhood cancer, since all the benefits of this show will go to the CUDECA Foundation and the Association of Children’s Oncology Volunteers of the Maternal Maternal Malaga, AVOI.
Also, on Sunday, from 12.00 to 16.00 hours, the Royal Street will be the scene of the XIV National Contest of Ham Cutters ‘Popi Trophy, City of Estepona’. The finale of ‘Estepona Vive sus Calles’ will be on Sunday the Municipal Band with a monographic concert of pasodobles. It will be at 13:00 hours in the Plaza del Reloj.

– 20.00 hours, Antonia Guerrero Square. Flamenco Fusion Show with Beatriz Blázquez. The dancer, choreographer and musical actress from Estepona will offer a flamenco dance show fusing a traditional style with new trends.
– 21.00 hours, Plaza Antonia Guerrero. Performance by Gonzalo Sarfatti. The young solo singer, ‘talent’ of ‘La Voz’ 2023, will combine acoustic and Latin music in a mix of his own songs and cover songs, suitable for all audiences.
– 22.00 hours, Orquidario Botanical Park. Dreadsistance’ in Concert. The emerging band from Cordoba, characterized by its mix of rap with other multiple genres, presents live their latest EP, ‘Matria’, with which they have managed to cover an impressive universe of styles and emotions carrying Andalusia by flag.
Saturday 13:

– 18.00 hours, Plaza Antonia Guerrero. Performance by ‘Deep Time’. The musical group will perform versions of pop, rock and funk known artists such as Michael Jackson, Amy Winehouse, Police, Simply Red …, adapted to flamenco.
– 7 p.m., Plaza Antonia Guerrero. Carlos Llovet presents Who would send me to me! This play is not just any monologue. The actor from Estepona will mix the traditional ‘stand up comedy’ where he will talk about topics such as love, family, work… with another part that we could call ‘one-man’ theater, in which he will play different characters.
– 20.00 hours, Montemayor Street, in Cancelada. Performance by Tony Cultura & Cía. The singer-songwriter and his band, consisting of piano, guitar, saxophone and flamenco cajón, cover songs by artists such as Manuel Carrasco, Alejandro Sanz, Estopa or Triana, creating a family atmosphere that invites you to dance.
– 8:00 p.m., Orquidario Botanical Park. Musical ‘Mom, I want to be an artist’. Black Sheep Productions tells the story of a girl and the challenges she faces to achieve stardom through a tour of the most famous and well-known numbers of Musical Theatre. An event that leaves no spectator indifferent.
– 22.00 hours, Plaza del Ajedrez. Las Migas’ in Concert. With a Latin Grammy and a MIN Award for Best Flamenco Album for his latest work, ‘Libres’, are already one of the most magical and international consolidated bands.
