The old Mercado de Abastos reopens as a new gastronomic space
The facilities offer a complete range of traditional and international cuisine.
The mayor of Estepona, José María García Urbano, today attended the official reopening of the old Mercado de Abastos of the city, which is now presented as a new gastronomic space.
After a long-awaited renovation, the Estepona Market, built in 1949 and recognized for its service as a traditional market until 2018 -when it underwent a comprehensive reform becoming a Gourmet Market-, has now been transformed with a new concept. The 950-square-meter center now presents a culinary offer that fuses the charm of local gastronomy with a selection of international flavors.
After the corresponding public procedure, the Estepona City Council formalized a few months ago the contract for the concession of the building for its economic exploitation as a commercial establishment, hotel, restaurant and/or product sale. The management has been assumed by the company Nation Food, directed by Hazel Gormley-Leahy and Janne Thorstenson, who presented an innovative project of gastronomic space also renovating the facilities.
The gastronomic proposal, led by Robin Hall, Michelin-starred executive chef, whose professional career has been cemented in some of the most prestigious restaurants in the world, is composed of the restaurants Crú, Cucini da Me, Freds Bar de Tapas and Bar de Fuegos. In addition, Ikan, which offers an exclusive experience by prior reservation for only 24 guests for lunch and dinner service, stands out.
