This week, the City Council will replace the Bahía La Plata bridge with a more modern one, integrated in the coastal corridor.
The work will make it possible to put an end to the deficiencies of the current structure, which dates back to 2007. The works will force to cut the passage in the area until Friday.
The Estepona City Council plans to carry out during this week the works that will allow the replacement of the current promenade bridge in the section of Bahía La Plata by another safer, modern and integrated in its aesthetics with the coastal corridor. This is a necessary action given the poor condition of the current structure due to its age (2007) and the corrosive effects it has been suffering due to its proximity to the sea.
The intervention, in which the Consistory is going to invest 39,000 euros plus VAT, will force to cut the passage during the days in which the demolition of the current structure, which dates from 2007, the removal of the same and the installation of the new bridge, which will arrive in Estepona this coming Thursday from Asturias, where the manufacturer is located.
The initial work plan, barring any incidents, contemplates that the demolition and removal of the structure will be carried out between Tuesday and Wednesday, while the installation of the new bridge is scheduled for Thursday, so that by the end of the week this section of the promenade will be open again.
The new bridge, which has been built by a specialized company in Asturias, is 11 meters long, 3.5 meters wide and weighs 12 tons. It is made of pine wood. One of its main features is that it is made in one piece and has internal stainless steel hardware reinforcements.
