*With Youth Choir
Originally called “Villa de Estepona”, the Magnum Mysterium Choir was founded in 1987 thanks to the initiative of a group of enthusiasts in love with choral polyphony. In its beginnings it was configured as a Chamber Choir dedicated to the study and interpretation of Spanish and European polyphony of the Renaissance and Baroque, and in successive years it opened up to different works, styles and periods, delving into the popular and religious music of Latin America, Eastern Europe and especially in Sephardic music. Likewise, its repertoire abounds in popular and religious music of contemporary authors.
In 1992, the Choir was constituted as a non-profit Cultural Association, with the aim of promoting the study and practice of quality polyphonic choral music, promoting and participating in concerts and individual and collective musical interventions both in Spain and abroad.
It is currently a member of the Malacitana Federation of Choirs, the Andalusian Confederation and the Spanish Choral Confederation. Its chief conductor, Miguel Ángel Garrido Sánchez, has been conducting choirs in the city of Malaga for more than 57 years and also holds the Professional Piano and Superior Solfeggio and Repentization degrees and is a graduate in Choir Conducting and Orchestra Conducting. He has taught at the Conservatorio Superior de Música and the Professional Conservatory Manuel Carra in Malaga. At present, he is singer of the Iberoamerican group Tantanakuy, he conducts the Rafael Baeza Choir of Marbella and he is conductor of the Magnum Mysterium Choir of Estepona since 1995.
