City Council begins work to renovate Plaza Colón with new paving, street furniture and infrastructure

The action is part of the comprehensive improvement plan, both in the center and in neighborhoods, which has been carried out by the Consistory.

The Estepona City Council continues to work on various actions aimed at continuing to provide comprehensive improvements, both in areas of the old town and in neighborhoods. Thus, it has started one of the outstanding works of this municipal project: the remodeling of the Cristobal Colon Square, which will be provided with new paving, street furniture and infrastructure.

Specifically, work will be carried out on a total surface area of 1,841 square meters, in the area bounded by Cristóbal Colón and María de Maeztu streets. The intervention was awarded with a budget of 468,952 euros and an execution period of 4 months. According to the works project, the area currently shows signs of deterioration, hence the decision to replace both the pavement and the rest of the current urban elements and street furniture.

The study of the state of the infrastructures has determined which of those already carried out, such as drainage, rainwater or street lighting, can be reused and what needs the area has for new material. Thus, it has been detected the need to replace the sewage networks, renewing the existing connections. Likewise, some rainwater connections will be made and scuppers will be added to collect rainwater from the streets. It is also planned to replace supply networks and connections.

This space will also be equipped with new functional and ornamental elements, such as green spaces, a fountain and a drinking fountain.

This new project will also create a friendlier, larger and more suitable space for the users of the Aprona Foundation, which supports people with functional diversity in the municipality and is located in this square.
