Estepona celebrates the 1st Subida Mítica Sierra Bermeja, an official cycling competition to be held in June

It will be a timed race of 15 kilometers. Registration is open on the dorsalchip platform.

The mayor, José María García Urbano; the president of the 24 Hours Sports Foundation, Manuel Vallejo; the race director, Alejandro Rojas; and the representative of the cycling club ‘Tapering del Bueno’, promoters of the event, Domingo Escarcena, today presented the I Subida Mítica Sierra Bermeja, an official cycling event to be held on June 13 from 09.00 to 12.00 hours.

The first mayor recalled that last year the Royal Spanish Cycling Federation gave category ‘Mythical’ to the bike climb to Peñas Blancas, so it became one of the most prominent of the national scene. Thus, this section has been signposted in each of its kilometers and cyclists have information on the level of difficulty and its average slope. In this way, has highlighted the opportunity to live this unique experience, and enjoy a day of cycling, in the best atmosphere and with a route of the most special.

Regarding the technical issue, the race director, Alejandro Rojas, explained that the race will be divided into three sections. The first will be a neutralized route of 4 kilometers through the main streets of the city, the second will be the controlled ascent of 15 kilometers to the Puerto de Peñas Blancas and the last will be the non-timed ascent to the Refugio de Los Reales. He has also reported that once the race is over the Fair and Sports Park will host a party for all participants and the general public, with food and drink bar, and lots of raffles.

Rojas has also insisted that this is an inclusive event open to all, in which you can participate with mountain bike, gravel, electric, road, etc…

For his part, Domingo Escarcena, announced that registrations are now open at a price of 18 euros (insurance included) and can be made on the platform dorsalchip.com. In addition, he reported that all participants will be given a bag with isotonic drink and energy bar, bottle for hydration, bag of piquitos, bag of ham, energy gel, food and drink ticket, Finisher medal, and those who register before May 1 will be presented with a windproof vest.

The event was closed by Manuel Vallejo, who thanked the promoters, the cycling club ‘Tapering del Bueno’, for this initiative that has meant that the sport of cycling is again represented in the day of the ’24 Hours Sports’.

In addition, on the occasion of the test will be held a Photo Contest organized by the collective PhotoEstepona that will award the best photo of the competition. It will be possible to present

three photographs per participant, which will have to be sent to ingo@photoestepona.com. The prize will be 100 euros in cash and the winning photo will be the official image of the poster of the next edition of the Subida Mítica a Sierra Bermeja. The rest of the photographs submitted will be uploaded to the organization’s networks @subidasierrabermeja.
