Estepona Orchidarium receives second prize at the 24th World Orchid Conference

It is being held in the German city of Dresden from March 26 to 29.

The Estepona City Council reports that the city’s Orchid Park has won second prize at the 24th World Orchid Conference being held in the German city of Dresden from March 26 to 29, organized by the German Orchid Society. This is a worldwide event that is held every three years and has not taken place in Europe for more than two decades.

In addition, another of the most significant recognition for Estepona in this congress, is that our city will be part of the four elite routes of the Journey to the Orchid Hotspots of Andalusia, to be held from March 30 to April 6, 2026.

The Andalusian representation in this event has been in charge of the Orchidarium of Estepona with its technical director, Manuel Lucas, at the head, who has also played a central role in multiple acts of the official program as responsible for these facilities and as secretary of the European Orchid Council.

Anatoli Minzatu and Sergiy Onyshchuk have also been part of the team, who have presented some orchids grown in the facilities in Estepona, and María José Muñoz, a regular collaborator and donor of plants to the Orchidarium, who has also competed with her own specimens.

This event has brought together some 500 international congressmen and will exceed 50,000 visitors in the attached exhibition. The program includes lectures by experts from around the world on orchid cultivation, conservation, history, science and hybridization; a large sales area with more than 75 exhibitors from nurseries and societies from five continents; and the Botanical Art exhibition, organized by the Verein Für Botanische Kunst Deutschland, with more than 50 original works by international artists.

The events will be completed with the ‘Night of the Orchids’, today Friday, with music and a romantic atmosphere; the gala dinner tomorrow Saturday where the prizes of the championship will be awarded.
