Estepona organizes a free workshop on forest fire prevention open to the public

The environmental awareness day will be held next Thursday, March 5, at Mirador del Carmen

The Estepona City Council informs that next Thursday, March 5, will be held at the Mirador del Carmen a free environmental awareness workshop to publicize the rights and duties of citizens in the prevention of forest fires.

This training activity, organized by the Department of Sustainability and Environment of the Andalusian Government and co-financed by the European Union, is open to all citizens in general and especially to residents of urban-forest areas, owners of homes, plots and rural properties, as well as neighborhood associations and local groups.

Estepona is a territory of high vulnerability to forest fires and other risks associated with climate change, such as heat waves and prolonged droughts. Therefore, citizen collaboration is essential to avoid, as far as possible, this type of fires.

This workshop aims to reinforce the preventive culture and citizen co-responsibility in the face of fire risk, with special attention to urban-forest and agro-forest areas.

During the day, which will take place from 16.00 to 19.00 hours, will address issues such as forest fires in Andalusia, the most common causes and local risk factors, the basic framework of citizen obligations (cleaning of plots, use of fire, self-protection), the rights of citizenship, participation, security and institutional support.
