Estepona presents the first Costa del Sol Marathon

The Estepona Jardín Costa del Sol Marathon debuts in the international calendar on October 11 with a premium experience for the runner and the beauty of the Costa del Sol as an attraction.

The Estepona Garden Costa del Sol Marathon will also include the half marathon distance, which will celebrate its fifth edition.

Estepona is one of the cities that best represents the soul of this coastline, which this year proposes a real challenge for October 11: the first Estepona Garden Marathon Costa del Sol.

This morning, José María García Urbano, mayor of Estepona, presented this sporting event, which aims to become a national and international reference. Because when the cold is taking positions in the rest of the Peninsula and Europe, Estepona maintains all that warmth, brightness and magic that are part of its hallmark.

Jose Maria Garcia Urbano, mayor of Estepona, stressed that this test will be a “magnificent” showcase and a “great opportunity” to make visible the benefits of the city. He also highlighted the uniqueness of this marathon, “which will be unique in Europe”, to run along a spectacular coastal path that opens the city to the sea and an urban center converted into the garden of the Costa del Sol.

Estepona is an enclave closely linked to the world of running. The Estepona Half Marathon has become in only four editions one of the most attractive sporting events for runners. The race experience, the mild temperatures and the cosmopolitan character without losing the essence of the Andalusian tradition, conquers every year more and more people from outside Andalusia.

Miguel de los Santos, president of the Estepona Athletics Club, organizers of the four previous editions of the Estepona Half Marathon, spoke about “the idea of making a marathon”, which comes from afar, and that this year will become a reality: “we will support the event to the maximum so that everyone comes to Estepona, enjoy this magnificent climate we have and know this coastal path that is wonderful,” said Miguel de los Santos, first athlete from Estepona in the Olympic Games, in Atlanta 1996 in 110 meters hurdles.

This year it is growing, with the Estepona Jardín Costa del Sol Marathon, which, limited to only 2,000 runners, will offer participants an exclusive running experience, in a race organized by Atresmedia.

Álvaro Pitto, director of New Business at Last Lap Atresmedia commented that with the Estepona Jardín Costa del Sol Marathon “we want to offer a unique, differential experience, a boutique marathon, only for 2,000 runners, due to the limited width of this spectacular coastal path that inspires this race. And all with an international projection, inspired by the Malaga Marathon, to discover this spectacular corner. A marathon that is here to stay”.

42 kilometers and 195 meters unforgettable, with a route that takes advantage of much of the coastal corridor, one of the most spectacular coastal stretches of southern Europe.

With this Marathon, Estepona takes a decisive step to consolidate itself as an international active tourism destination, combining tourism, sport and quality of life.

Registrations for the Estepona Jardín Costa del Sol Marathon are available on the official website of the race (www.maratoncostadelsol.com) at a price of 50 euros for the Marathon and 30 euros for the classic half marathon distance.

There will also be VIP options available to experience Estepona and its entire 23 kilometers of coastline with special services.

The Costa del Sol Marathon has the support of the Estepona City Council, with the sponsorship of Mancomunidad Costa del Sol Occidental, Azata, Taraje and Hotel Ikos, and with the collaboration of Hidralia, Urbaser, Carrefour, Renault Rombosol, Restaurante El Cielo, Grupo Trocadero and Afar4.
