Estepona’s municipal climbing wall hosts the Spanish University Climbing Championship 2026

The event, in which around 100 athletes will participate, will take place from April 14 to 16.

The Estepona City Council reports that the municipal climbing wall will host from 14 to 16 April the celebration of the Spanish University Climbing Championship 2026, organized by the University of Malaga, in collaboration with the Consistory. The presentation was attended by the mayor of Estepona, which has highlighted the versatility of this sports space to allow the celebration of sporting events and the practice of this sport.

The main objective of the Spanish University Climbing Championship is to promote the sport of climbing at the university level, promoting values such as effort, self-improvement, companionship and fair play. Likewise, the championship seeks to offer a space for high-level competition, allowing university students to demonstrate their technical and physical abilities in a safe and regulated environment.

Among the specific objectives are to promote the active participation of the university community in sports activities, to contribute to the development and dissemination of climbing as an emerging sports discipline, and to strengthen relations between universities through sport. Likewise, it is intended to promote equal opportunities, inclusion and respect among participants, as well as to guarantee an efficient organization that complies with the established sports and safety standards.

The Climbing Championship, in which around 100 athletes will participate, is part of the Spanish University Championships, which are organized every year by the Consejo Superior de Deportes, and whose organization has been entrusted to the ten public universities of Andalusia.

The program of the Climbing Championship is as follows:

– Tuesday, April 14: from 16:00 to 20:00 hours. accreditations at the Municipal Football Stadium Francisco Muñoz Pérez.

– Wednesday, April 15: from 08:30 to 18:30 hours, Block Competition.

– 19.00 hours: Presentation of trophies.

– Thursday, April 16: from 08:30 to 17:30 hours. Difficulty Competition.

– 18.00 hours: Presentation of trophies.

Since 2024, Estepona has had an open-air climbing wall that allows hosting this type of competitions. With a total area of 662 square meters, the space is divided into three areas specially designed to accommodate different modalities of this sport: difficulty (363 m2), speed (115 m2) and block (184 m2).
