French students from the Erasmus program will participate in a Flamenco Workshop with singing students from the Academy ‘El Patio, Aprende a Cantar’ at the Padre Manuel Cultural Center.

The meeting, organized by IES Monterroso with the collaboration of the City Council, will be directed by the singer Ana Fargas, and will take place on Wednesday, March 18, at 6:00 pm.

The City Council of Estepona informs that next Wednesday, March 18, at 18:00 hours, will be held at the Centro Cultural Padre Manuel a meeting between students of the Academy ‘El Patio, Learn to Sing’, in its modality of singing, and the students of the educational exchange program ‘Erasmus’, from the Lycée Xavier Bichat de Nantua (France).

This activity is organized by the Monterroso Secondary School of Estepona, with the collaboration of the City Council, as part of the set of projects developed by the school, whereby Erasmus students have the opportunity to participate in various cultural activities.

These activities include guided tours of the surroundings and different places of interest in the town, as well as the approach to the musical roots of our land through the knowledge of Flamenco, declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.

In this context, the students will participate in a Flamenco Workshop that will be taught by the singer Ana Fargas, director of the Estepona Flamenco Association ‘El Patio’, along with her singing students. During this practical workshop, participants will learn the essential elements of the Flamenco Art while everyone shares experiences. Coinciding with the commemoration, in March, of International Women’s Day, this workshop will place special emphasis on the important evolution of the figure of women in the world of Flamenco.

Flamenco is a complex artistic manifestation that integrates singing, flamenco guitar, dance and rhythmic accompaniment of clapping. It originated in Andalusia in the 18th century, as a result of a long process of cultural crossbreeding between different traditions and peoples.
