Luis Merayo revalidates the gold medal in High Jump M55, in the Spanish Masters Championships of Athletics Short Track 2026

The athlete, Spanish M55 Indoor High Jump Champion 2025, is the technical director of the Escuela Club Atletismo Estepona. Juan Sergio Picardo, member of the Estepona Club, won the title of runner-up in ml M60 Short Track 2026.

The City Council of Estepona informs that the athlete Luis Merayo Cantalapiedra, current Spanish Champion 2025 of high jump M55 in Indoor Track, has achieved again the gold medal in the High Jump event, in the Spanish Masters Championship of Athletics Short Track, held at the ‘Centro de Tecnificación Deportiva de Atletismo’ in Antequera.

The local athlete won the place in the discipline of high jump in the M55 category, with a best jump of 1.63 meters, although it should be noted the great participation and the level demonstrated in the Championship by athletes belonging to Club Atletismo Estepona. In addition to the gold medal won by Luis Merayo in the high jump M55, Juan Sergio Picardo won the silver medal in the 60 ml M60.

The results of the rest of the participants in the Championship were as follows:

– Juan Zotano (8th classified long jump M55).

– Miguel de los Santos (Semifinal 60 ml M50)

– Miguel Fco. López (5th classified shot put M45)

– Eric Bourdes (Semifinal 60 ml M55)

– Juan Sergio Picardo (4th classified 200 ml M60)

– Cristóbal Rodríguez, Fco. Javier Martín, Fco. Cervantes, Juan Sergio Picardo (Relay 4×200 M40)

Luis Merayo is technical director of the Escuela Club Atletismo Estepona, and currently holds the titles of 2024 world runner-up in the M55 outdoor high jump (Goteborg-Sweden), bronze medal in the 2024 World Championships in the M55 outdoor long jump (Goteborg-Sweden); 2025 Spanish champion in the M55 indoor high jump (Antequera-Málaga) and outdoor (La Nucia, Alicante), 2026 Spanish champion in the M55 high jump (Antequera-Málaga) and 2026 Spanish champion in the M55 outdoor high jump (La Nucia, Alicante).

In March last year, Merayo won two bronze medals at the World Indoor Masters Athletics Championships 2025, held in Florida, USA, in High Jump and Long Jump M55. And last October, he won the silver medal in the High Jump and the bronze medal in Long Jump, at the European Masters Outdoor Athletics Championships 2025, held in Madeira, Portugal.
