More than 1,200 people have already participated in the Pedal Day, an activity included in the municipal initiative ‘2023, Year of the Bicycle in Estepona’.

The City Council has already held eight editions of this activity which aims to encourage the use of bicycles and promote a city with a better quality of life. The next activity will be held on Sunday, September 10.

The Estepona City Council reports that more than 1,200 people have already participated in the municipal initiative of the Pedal Day, an activity included in the program ‘2023, Year of the Bicycle in Estepona’. The Consistory has already held eight editions of this activity, which is aimed at both children and adults. Participants ride about 5 kilometers through the streets of the town center, with the starting and finishing point at the Plaza Antonia Guerrero. Before the tour of the last edition, participants observed a minute’s silence in memory of the legendary cyclist Federico Martín Bahamontes.

The cycling marches will be repeated on the second Sunday of each month in 2023 (with some exceptions). The next event will be held on Sunday, September 10. Both the starting and finishing points are emblematic places of the city, and may vary in order to cover different areas and centers of the town. In this way, participants can also enjoy the revitalized enclaves of the municipality and the new spaces gained for pedestrians.

This month’s march had the collaboration of the Virgen del Carmen Cycling Club, in charge of organizing a Gyncana. The procession was led and secured by members of the Local Police, volunteers from the Local Grouping of Civil Protection and staff of the municipal delegation of Sports. On this occasion, all participants were presented with a gift consisting of a bottle of water for cycling, and a cell phone holder. In addition, those who have participated in the day of the pedal, at least 2 times, received a commemorative jersey of the year of cycling in Estepona 2023. Also, at the end of the route, a youth bike was raffled among all participants, whose lucky winner was the young local athlete Isaac Gil Salas, who received the gift from the hands of the Deputy Mayor of the Sociocultural Area, Paula Herrera, and the Councillor for Sports, Daniel Garcia.

As in previous editions, participants can also register, stamp their cycling passport and pick up the commemorative jersey (with proof of 2 participations), the same day of the race, up to 15 minutes before the start. More information at www.estepona.deportes.es or by calling 952 80 24 44.
