More than 200 people will participate in the IX historical recreation that pays tribute to Salvador Manzanares and Pedro Manrique.

The association ‘Manzanares Estepona 1831’ will celebrate this weekend its traditional cultural days to commemorate the role played by the politician and military Salvador Manzanares, the Estepona native Pedro Manrique and the liberals of the nineteenth century, in defense of constitutional values and civil liberties.

The councilor attached to the delegation of Citizen Participation, Maria Aguilar; Estepona historian, José María Guerrero; and representatives of the cultural association ‘Manzanares Estepona 1831’, today presented the program organized to celebrate the ninth edition of the Tribute to Salvador Manzanares and Pedro Manrique, to be held on 6, 7 and 8 March in the city.

On this occasion involved 12 associations throughout Andalusia: Cultural Association Torrijos 1831 (Malaga); Association of Historical Recreation Bandoleros of Grazalema; Historical-Cultural Association Quema de Algarrobo; A. C. José María El Tempranillo-Bandoleros de Alameda; Association Battle of the Bridge of Montejaque; A.C. Bandoleros de Despeñaperros; A.C. The events will begin this Friday, March 6, from 18:30 hours, with a cultural proclamation by the renowned researcher Ildefonso Navarro Luego, historian and municipal archaeologist of Estepona, in the Casa de las Tejerinas of Estepona.

The program will continue on March 7, at 11:00 am, with a romantic-liberal parade that will have as its epicenter the theatrical space installed in the Plaza Antonia Guerrero. In this space, the participating associations will interpret romantic-liberal and bandit passages and scenes, in relation to the events that took place in their respective towns, their culture and traditions.

On March 8, the streets of Estepona will be taken over by the historical recreation and the Romantic-Liberal period parade, in which the participants, dressed in the style of 1831, will stage the death of Manzanares, the capture of the liberal troops, and the firing squad on the shores of the beach. In addition, there will be a tribute to Pedro Manrique, a young Esteponero who was an agent of General Torrijos and the Junta de Gibraltar in 1831, born in Santa Ana Street.

The procession will depart at 11.00 am from the Botanical Park-Orquidario, where the first scene will happen, will continue along Calle Terraza, Plaza del Reloj (12.00 hours) where the central acts will take place, will continue with the tribute to Pedro Manrique in Santa Ana Street with Real Street (12.45 hours), will run to the beach of La Rada (13.15 hours), where the occupation of the beach and the shooting of the liberals will take place (13.45 hours), ending at the Historic Cemetery of Estepona, at the tomb of Salvador Manzanares and his men (14.00 hours).

The councilor attached to the area of Citizen Participation, Maria Aguilar, has encouraged all citizens to participate in all these activities planned because it is a way “enjoyable and educational” to know part of the past of this city. In addition, she thanked the cultural association ‘Manzanares Estepona 1831’ for their involvement with this project, which year after year is growing with the participation of more Andalusian associations and groups that recreate episodes of history.
