The Magnum Mysterium Choir has been developing its musical activity in Estepona for more than 30 years. Originally called “Villa de Estepona”, it was founded in 1987. In its beginnings, it was configured as a Chamber Choir focused on the study and interpretation of classical polyphony and, throughout its history, it has been incorporating to its repertoire works of all styles and from all times, from music from Eastern countries, Sephardic songs and popular titles to film music, musicals and polyphonic scores of contemporary composers.

In 1992, the Choir was constituted as a non-profit Cultural Association, with the aim of promoting the study and practice of quality polyphonic choral music. It has offered concerts in various cities throughout Spain and has participated in competitions, exchanges and international meetings, taking the name of our city beyond our borders, leaving evidence of its good musical level. It has to its credit with the Torre Almenara 2011 award and was awarded the prize “Esteponero del Año 2012” awarded by the Rotary International Club.

Its chief conductor, Miguel Ángel Garrido Sánchez, professor emeritus of the Professional Conservatory Manuel Carra, in Malaga, currently devotes his activity to conducting choirs, thus continuing a long career in the teaching of polyphonic choral music, which he combines with his activity as an organist.
