The City Council completes the construction of a breakwater wall on the La Cala road to improve the safety of this route

The Consistory also contemplates the construction of two other breakwater walls in Loma de Atanasio and Huertas del Padrón in the near future

The Estepona Town Hall informs that the construction works of a breakwater wall that has reinforced and improved the safety of the road to La Cala have been completed. The works, which have involved an investment of 78,650 euros, have had an execution period of two months.

The road of La Cala is a communication route widely used by the neighbors, as well as very busy by a large number of cars and heavy vehicles, as it connects the eastern part of the town with scattered areas, agricultural, livestock and maintenance activities.

These works have been undertaken because the concentration of water from the river of La Cala in times of heavy storms caused the detachment of a part of the slope that supports the road (about 26 meters), in the section that runs from the coastal avenue to when it overflies the AP7.

The deputy mayor of the area of Development, Infrastructure and Tourism (FIT), Ana Velasco explained that the Consistory considered necessary, immediate and urgent replacement of the damage recorded in the existing containment structure since ancient times, to avoid major landslides and other problems that could affect the main trunk of the road.

It has also indicated that in addition to these works, works have been carried out to collect surface waters that flow down to the road and run through it, to redirect them to natural channel and avoid the problems that occur in that environment.

On the other hand, the municipal responsible has announced that the Consistory is also working on implementation of two other breakwater walls, one in Loma de Atanasio, 44 square meters, whose work will begin next week. The other, of about 150 square meters, will begin to be built in Huertas del Padrón, once the execution of the previous one is completed.

These actions are funded in the extraordinary program of tourism sustainability 2021-2023 in its axis 1 green and sustainable transition of the Strategic Plan for Sustainable Tourism in Estepona 2022-2024, funded by the Recovery Plan Transformation and Resilience, funded by the European Union-Next Generation EU.
