The City Council is working on the recovery of the beaches after the last storms.

The concessionaire of the beach service has hired specific machinery to recover the profile of the coastline, which has been altered by the outflow of rivers and streams.

Estepona City Council reports that it is working on the recovery and conditioning of the beaches, after the storms and heavy rains that the city has suffered in recent weeks. For days, the operators of the municipal delegation of Beaches are acting for the preparation of the entire coastline before the upcoming arrival of Easter.

The concessionaire of the Beaches service, Licuas, has hired a bulldozer with the aim of recovering the profile of the beaches, which has been altered by the outflows of rivers and streams to the sea.

These days, the work is focused on the mouths of the streams, whose beds have been displaced by the force of rain and waves, causing accumulations of water on the sand. The beach service operators are working to redirect these channels and restore their natural outlet to the sea, avoiding the formation of such ponds and improving the conditions of the environment.

At the same time, intensive cleaning work continues along the coast, both on the beaches of the town and those located in the suburbs. So far, a significant amount of materials and waste washed away by the rivers during the storms has already been removed.

On the other hand, the City Council of Estepona has prepared reports of damages suffered on the coast to apply for financial aid that other public administrations are promoting so that the affected municipalities can cope with this situation caused by the severe weather phenomena.

Also, the Consistory will return to claim to the central government that in spring undertakes contributions of sand to the beaches that need to be regenerated. The councilor attached to the area of Beaches, Susana Aragon, believes that these actions, which are made every year for the summer season, could be avoided if the Government would give the appropriate authorizations for the City Council to execute the necessary works for the stabilization of the coast, such as the construction of dykes or breakwaters submerged.

Finally, the mayor said that the City Council will continue working to ensure that the coast of Estepona present the best possible conditions for residents and visitors in a period of such a high influx as Easter. For this reason, maintenance and conservation work will be strengthened to ensure the safety and quality of one of the main attractions of the city.
