The City Council promotes a new floral campaign with more than 400,000 plants to enhance the city’s image

The Consistory consolidates its garden city model by surpassing 800,000 square meters of public gardens

The Estepona City Council has already begun the spring-summer planting in the municipal green areas that will be embellished with more than 400,000 specimens of different species of flowers and shrubs.

The Consistory thus launches one of the most important actions of the annual gardening calendar, which will run progressively until next August. The deputy mayor of the area of Services and External Control, Blas Ruzafa, said that the work has begun after the end of the period of heaviest rains, with the aim that public spaces look in its maximum splendor during the busiest tourist season.

The municipal responsible has stressed that all the plants come from the municipal nursery, which allows to optimize resources and significantly reduce the economic cost of an intervention of these characteristics, while ensuring the quality and adaptation of the species to the local climate.

The planting work is being carried out in main avenues, the seafront promenade, the entrances to the city, squares in the historic center and various peripheral areas. Among the varieties selected are lobelias, marigolds, nemesias, gazanias, pansies and begonias, in addition to different shrub species that are being incorporated in specific enclaves such as the Litoral Avenue. At the same time, the municipal nursery continues to analyze the possible incorporation of new species, conducting periodic tests to check their behavior and adaptation in different parts of the municipality.

The spring-summer campaign is especially characterized by the commitment to intense colors and striking compositions that transform flowerbeds and traffic circles in spaces of great visual appeal. In this sense, Ruzafa has valued the dedication and creativity of the municipal gardening team, which carefully designs each floral combination to offer a harmonious and attractive image.

This initiative is part of the project ‘Estepona, Garden of the Costa del Sol’, which has become one of the main distinctive elements of the municipality. The constant renewal of floral species is key to maintaining the high level of conservation and aesthetics of public spaces and consolidate the city as a national benchmark in the care and maintenance of gardens.

Finally, the mayor recalled that Estepona currently has more than 800,000 square meters of public green space, representing an increase of 60 percent over 2012. This growth has allowed the municipality to double the national average of square meters of green area per inhabitant, thus reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and quality of life.
