The City Council provides assistance to more than a hundred women victims of gender violence.

The Municipal Women's Information Center has covered 59 new cases since January, while work continues on the psychological treatment of another 52 victims from previous years. The largest number of cases is located in the age group between 40 and 49 years old.
The Estepona City Council provides assistance to a total of 111 women victims of gender violence through the department of specific comprehensive care available to the Municipal Women's Center. Of those cases that have been attended since January, 59 are new, while work continues on the psychological treatment of 52 victims from previous years. The majority profile of women who report cases of abuse in the Department of Integral Attention to the Victim of the City Council is the range between 40 and 49 years, with a total of 37 cases, 33.33%.
One more year, and on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women to be held tomorrow November 25, the City of Estepona pays tribute to the victims of this social scourge by expressing its rejection, showing solidarity and remembering that any woman can go to municipal services to be assisted and advised, as indicated by the councilor attached to the delegation of Women, Julia Simon.
The official ceremony will take place tomorrow at 12.30 pm in the Plaza Antonia Guerrero. Tribute will be paid to the victims with the intervention of authorities, reading of a manifesto and a minute of silence. In addition, there will be the awards ceremony of the XVII Poster Contest November 25, made by the students of secondary schools in Estepona.
The record of data handled by the Department of Comprehensive Care for Victims of Gender Violence, integrated into the Municipal Women's Information Center, also points out that 42% of women served have a restraining order that prevents their partners from approaching them. In addition, there are currently 17 tele-assistance telephones registered, and during this year 8 have been activated for new users. In total, 23 terminals have been active this year.
So far this year, the Municipal Women's Information Center has provided 1,403 services to women who have come to this service seeking advice, assistance and guidance on issues such as abuse, financial aid, psychological help, relationship crises or employment. Fifty-four percent of the services were related to psychological help, 32% to equality issues, and 15% to legal advice.
This municipal center provides direct attention, information and support to any woman who requests it. Depending on the assessment of each case, referrals are made to the different departments of the center or to other bodies involved in resolving the situation.
Among the reasons for the consultations are economic, labor, training or participation issues, situations of abuse, couple crisis, advice on the Active Insertion Income, psychological counseling, or consultations related to divorce proceedings.
Another basic pillar of the Municipal Women's Information Center of Estepona is the work on coeducation in schools to raise awareness of students, teachers and families in the value of equality as a tool for a comprehensive training of people, as well as the empowerment of the women's association movement and other associations that integrate among its purposes the gender perspective.
Examples of these activities are the 'March 8 Award', which is awarded in recognition of the work of individuals or groups in favor of equality; the Contest 'Letters written by a woman', on the occasion of the Day of the Book; or the Poster Contest 'November 25 No to Violence', developed with the students of Secondary School in Estepona.
The City Council also carries out activities with the aim of promoting the social participation of women and disseminating the policies of Equal Opportunities between women and men in the municipality.
