The City Council renovates 17 playgrounds in a first phase of activities

This project, which has involved an investment of almost 750,000 euros, will be extended to all playgrounds in the municipality in a second phase.

The Estepona City Council reports that it has completed the first phase of the renovation and modernization plan of the playgrounds of the municipality. The aim of this project has been to put in perfect condition of use and safety these spaces for the leisure of the little ones, which are located both in the urban core and in the suburbs.

This plan has been carried out in a total of 17 parks. Specifically, in the town center have been remodeled in the neighborhoods of Blas Infante and Pablo Picasso, the one located on Avenida Andalucía, the Parque del Abuelo in Ortega y Gasset street and those located in Congreso street, in the Fair and Sports Park and in front of the National Police Station. Work has also been carried out in the Parque del Ángel, in the Plaza del Ajedrez, in Avenida Guillermo Cabrera, in the Parque de la Comunicación and in the Jardín de la Vega.

Also, in the suburban area have been remodeled in the Plaza de las Nieves and the annex to the municipal nursery Cancelada, the Plaza de la Concordia and located in front of the mayor’s office of Isdabe, in Altos de Guadalobón and Santiago Apostol street.

The investment in this plan has been 745,254 euros (VAT included). During the last few months, the protective surfaces formed by rubber tiles have been replaced by 4-centimeter thick continuous rubber safety pavements. In addition, the play elements in poor condition that could be repaired were removed and transported to the City Hall warehouse to give them a second life as spare parts for other elements.

Street furniture elements that interfered with the works, such as litter garbage cans or benches, have also been removed and subsequently relocated within the children’s area or in its immediate vicinity.

New sets of playground equipment and isolated elements have also been installed and placed according to the safety area required and indicated by the manufacturer. Finally, in those areas that did not have a perimeter safety area, an enclosure consisting of colored metal fences 90 centimeters high has been installed.

In short, this action has been carried out in enclosures in which the play and safety elements that were in poor condition have been replaced by others of higher quality, more modern and adapted to the needs of children.

This intervention has been the first phase of a plan that will reach all the playgrounds in the municipality in the coming months.
