The City Council of Estepona reports that it is undertaking a plan of action to prepare the coastline before the arrival of Easter, with the aim that the beaches of the town are presented in the best conditions to be enjoyed during this holiday period.

The councilor attached to the delegation of the Beaches, Susana Aragon, said that for some weeks have intensified these works, which are being carried out from Bahia Dorada to La Atalaya, although more intensively on the beaches of La Rada, El Cristo and El Padron.

The municipal responsible has indicated that the machines are working on the movements of sand to recover the profile of the coastline that has been affected by the waves and heavy rains. This will also eliminate the sinkholes and steps that the bed of the streams has left at its mouth on the beaches.

The mayor of beaches has pointed out that at the same time it is proceeding to the cleaning of the beaches, which includes the splitting and screening of the sand, as well as the removal of debris from reeds with special machinery and algae.

Also, Susana Aragón explained that the Beaches brigade is carrying out the pruning and clearing of the oasis, cleaning and tuning of showers and footbaths, painting and conditioning of the bathing modules and the installation of garbage cans. In addition, it has specified that not only machinery is being used, but many tasks are carried out manually, such as the removal of weeds and debris in the sand and on the walls bordering the promenade.

On the other hand, the Consistory will intensify in these days the works to put in order the sanitation and the services of light and water. Also, the accesses from the promenade and the coastal path have been improved, and special attention is being paid to the preparation of the fronts of beach bars and hotels in the town that are on the beachfront.

The councilor has indicated that the maintenance of the beaches is done throughout the year “in order to keep the coast in the best conditions throughout the year, as our city enjoys an unbeatable climate.

On the other hand, the Consistory is going to claim again to the central Government the urgency of executing the works of stabilization of the coast that avoid these continuous damages, by means of the creation of dikes or submerged breakwaters. In this sense, the City Council has already made an offer to carry out, always following the indications of the Directorate General of Coasts, definitive actions in this regard. This municipal proposal for the protection of the coast was made more than five years ago, being the City Council willing to assume its total cost from the municipal budgets. However, the central government has not even authorized the drafting of the corresponding projects.
