The City Council will conclude its Energy Efficiency Plan for municipal buildings at the Palacio de Congresos

The Consistory has already opened the public tender to contract the installation of photovoltaic panels. In recent years, other municipal buildings such as the Archaeological Museum, Casa de las Tejerinas, the Bullring and the Muñoz Pérez Football Stadium have been equipped with energy saving and CO2 emission reduction measures.

The Estepona City Council takes a new step to complete the Energy Efficiency Plan launched a few years ago with the aim of reducing energy consumption and CO2 emissions into the atmosphere. Now the procedures have been initiated to place photovoltaic panels in the Palace of Exhibitions and Congresses.

The Consistory has been implementing measures to save energy and, therefore, the electricity bill, in other municipal facilities such as the Padre Manuel Cultural Center, the sports pavilion El Carmen, the soccer stadium Francisco Muñoz Pérez, the Bullring, the Archaeological Museum or the Casa de las Tejerinas.

The objective of this measure is to obtain electrical energy directly from solar radiation, allowing a significant economic saving, as well as a considerable reduction in the emission of pollutants. In this way, the electrical energy produced in the solar plant would be associated with self-consumption of electricity from renewable sources, thus optimizing the energy efficiency of the municipal building.

The self-consumption photovoltaic installation to be installed at the Palacio de Congresos will have the corresponding solar panels, power inverters, protection and control systems and measuring equipment.

The base bidding budget for the contract, which is already open, is 140,955 euros (VAT included), while the execution period has been set at six weeks. The award criterion will be the most advantageous economic offer among those submitted.

The Estepona City Council set as a goal to ensure that all the museum and tourist buildings subject to intervention would initially see their energy consumption reduced by 15-20%, as well as improving their energy rating. The aim is also to increase the optimization of the city’s heritage and tourist attractions.

This action in the Conference Center is included in the framework of the extraordinary program of Tourism Sustainability in Destinations 2021-2023, in its axis 2 corresponding to the improvement of energy efficiency of the Strategic Plan for Sustainable Tourism of Estepona 2022-2024, financed by the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan of the European Union – Next Generation EU.

The Estepona City Council has been working on other actions framed within the municipal Energy Efficiency Plan, implementing a new lighting system with LED technology in the coastal corridor, roads and suburban areas, as well as new sustainable elements throughout the municipality with the renovation of public lighting in streets and municipal buildings.
