The Municipal Climbing Wall will host the Andalusian Block Climbing Championship, 1st round of the Andalusian Cup’26.

The event will take place on April 25 and 26, organized by the Andalusian Federation of Mountain Sports, Climbing and Hiking (FADMES), along with the Estepona Mountain Group GRUME, with the collaboration of the City of Estepona. Registrations will remain open until April 20 at 22:00 hours.

Estepona City Council reports that the Municipal Climbing Wall, located in the Fair and Sports Grounds, will host the next 25 and 26 April the Andalusian Championship Climbing Block’26, in turn, the first test of the Cup of Andalusia.

The Councillor for Sports, Luis Gil, and the representative of the Mountain Group Estepona GRUME, Francisco Jimenez, have presented this test, organized by the Andalusian Federation of Mountain Sports, Climbing and Hiking, along with the Mountain Group Estepona, GRUME, with the collaboration of the City of Estepona.

On Saturday morning 25 will participate athletes categories U9 (7 and 8 years), U11 (9 and 10 years) and U13 (11 and 12 years), and in the afternoon, the categories U15 (13 and 14 years) and U17 (15 and 16 years), both male and female. On Sunday 26th in the morning, athletes from the categories of Promotion (17 years old or older; this category may be mixed), U19 (between 17 and/or 18 years old), Absolute (from 17 years old, not included in the previous categories) and Veteran (from 35 years old, not included in the Absolute category) will compete.

There will be trophies for the first three classified in each category.

The second event of the Andalusian Cup of Block Climbing will take place on October 10 and 11 in Huelva, and the third, on December 12 and 13, in Motril.

The Estepona climbing wall, the largest of its kind in the open air in Spain, is located in the Fair and Sports Grounds and became operational in March 2024. The activities are carried out by professionals from the Club Grupo de Montaña de Estepona (GRUME), a well-known entity in the municipality that has been training at the municipal climbing wall at the El Carmen Sports Center since 2005. This entity, which is registered with the Andalusian Federation of Mountain Sports, Climbing and Hiking, has a climbing school that will now be expanded with more workshops and courses in the new facilities.

The climbing wall-rocodrome has been designed for the following practices: difficulty mode, speed mode and bouldering mode. It has a complete surface of 662 square meters, divided for the practice of the different modalities foreseen in this discipline: speed zone (115 square meters), difficulty zone (363 square meters) and bouldering zone (184 square meters).
