900 students will participate in an urban orienteering race that will take place in the old town of Estepona.

The second ‘Malaga Orienteering Sprint Camp MOSC 2024’ will take place on Tuesday, February 20 and will be open to people of all ages, starting from 10 years old.

The mayor of Estepona, José María García Urbano, the councilor attached to the municipal delegation of Sports, Luis Gi, the Director of MOSC 2024, Brígida Cuenca Adán; and the president of the 24 Hours Sports Foundation, Manuel Vallejo, presented today the second edition of the urban orienteering race ‘Málaga Orienteering Sprint Camp, MOSC 2024’, to be held in Estepona on February 20.

The alderman thanked the organization of this urban orienteering race that have opted for the old town for this activity in which it is estimated the participation of more than a thousand runners. García Urbano explained that primary and secondary students in the city will have an important role in this recreational competition, as 12 schools have confirmed the participation of 900 of their students.

The organizers have indicated that this race is open to people of any age from 10 years because the different routes are adapted according to the level and ages.

All participants will have a map that they will discover minutes before starting the test and that will mark an itinerary where they will find the different beacons that must be touching to advance in the race.

As they have explained, for Estepona has been designed a very fast route, which will require participants to maximum concentration, rewarding the fastest when choosing an optimal route. The routes through the main streets, squares and pedestrian areas of the town center will be supervised by Local Police officers and the Group of Civil Protection Volunteers of Estepona.

The Director of MOSC 2024, Brígida Cuenca, has informed that the race will start at 09.00 hours from the Paseo Marítimo, at the traffic circle of the European Union.

She also mentioned that this race is part of the second edition of the Málaga Orienteering Sprint Camp 2024, MOSC 2024, which will take place from February 19 to 25 in different locations on the Costa del Sol such as Fuengirola, Estepona, Benalmádena, Istán, Torremolinos, Mijas and Casares. Cuenca has commented that this sport is very popular in the Nordic countries and is confident that urban orienteering races are becoming more and more known in our environment.

The activity is organized by the Malaga delegation of the Andalusian Federation of Orienteering Sports, FADO, and the Orienteering Club of Malaga, COMA, with the sponsorship of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport of the Andalusian Government and the Provincial Council of Malaga, in collaboration with the Association of Municipalities of the Costa del Sol and the seven participating municipalities. In Estepona, also collaborates the 24 Hours Sports Foundation.
