The City Council celebrates tomorrow the British Day within its program to promote the integration of foreign residents.
The event, which will take place from 12:00 to 18:00 at the Palacio de Congresos, is part of the ‘Sharing Cultures’ initiative.
The deputy mayor of the Extraradio area, Begoña Ortiz, and the president and secretary of the Association of Foreign Residents of Estepona AREME, Francine Pompas and Jim Stevenson, respectively, today reported on the event to be held tomorrow Saturday to learn about the culture and customs of the British community living in the town.
As explained by the municipal responsible, the British Day is part of the program ‘Sharing Cultures’, created by the City Council “to promote the integration of our foreign neighbors”, highlighting the diversity and richness of traditions present in the city. Estepona has 135 different nationalities, and in particular, with nearly 5,000 registered residents of British origin, “so for the Consistory is very important to hold such events to further strengthen ties,” said the councilor.
Also, the mayor has reported that the event will run from 12.00 to 18.00 hours at the Exhibition and Conference Center, and that it will be a meeting between associations formed by mostly British members who have been doing volunteer work, charity and support in our city for many years.
Francine Pompas and Jim Stevenson have declared that this is an open day in which associations such as AREME, ADANA, Age Concerm, Ice Club, Flower Club, British Legion, ACE Club and Entre Gatos will be present. It will be possible to taste typical dishes and sweets, as well as the traditional English tea. There will be 22 stands, some of them with handicrafts and information stands of some local companies that provide services to English-speaking citizens. There will also be an area for children and throughout the day there will be live music and dance shows.
