The City Council is working on the last five sections that will complete the 23 kilometers of the coastal corridor.

The Consistory has begun work on the path that runs through Matas Verdes, is drafting the Costa Natura project and already has the authorizations from the Junta de Andalucía for Guadalmina Baja-Casasasola and Bahía Dorada. The relevant permits have already been requested for Isdabe-Atalaya.
The Estepona City Council faces the final stretch of the macro-project started more than a decade ago to create a corridor that allows to walk along the entire coastline of the municipality. In this sense, it has already advanced the procedures for the five remaining sections to complete this great infrastructure in its entirety.
At the moment, and with 95% of the total route completed, the Consistory has begun work this week for the construction of the section corresponding to the area of Playa Baños-Matas Verdes. This path will have 575 meters long wooden walkway and will allow the extension between the avenue of La Playa, to the west, and the Marriott’s Playa Andaluza establishment. It will also connect with the coastal areas of Punta de Baños-Casasasola and Saladillo beach. In this project 578,758 euros will be invested.
At the same time, the Consistory is working on the projects of two other new sections. Specifically, the extension of the pedestrian path in the areas of Bahía Dorada, to the west; and in Atalaya, to the east. With regard to the section corresponding to the Bahía Dorada area, the relevant authorizations have already been obtained from the Junta de Andalucía with reports from Costas on the preliminary project presented, and the final project is being drawn up. In the Isdabe Atalaya area, within section 15 of the municipal project, all the documentation has been submitted and the permits are awaited.
The other two remaining sections correspond to the Guadalmina Baja-Casasasola (section 16) and Costa Natura (section 35) areas. In the first case, the Department of Sustainability and Environment of the Regional Government of Andalusia has reported favorably on the municipal project submitted. As for Costa Natura, the project for the construction of the coastal corridor section is in the drafting stage.
With these five sections, one of the most ambitious projects of the current municipal government team, which has been in the works for more than a decade, will be completed, given the scope and complexity of the project.
The mayor, José María García Urbano, stresses the great value of this initiative of sustainable urban development, which has meant preserving this area of the coastline becoming a new tourist attraction for the municipality. In this regard, he recalled that the construction of a large pedestrian corridor connecting the entire coastline of Estepona is a project on which work began in 2011, being one of the strategic initiatives marked at the beginning of his administration as mayor.
Currently the coastal path is 95% completed and connects 21 kilometers of coastline. In order to condition the coastal corridor of Estepona it has been necessary to install up to 17 large wooden bridges to cross the rivers and streams along the route. The result has been an important enhancement of some spaces that had been isolated and can now be enjoyed by citizens through walking or sports.
