The mayor of Estepona, José María García Urbano, the head of the event, Alejandro Simón Partal, and the councilor attached to the area of Youth, Julia Simón, today presented the second edition of the Literary Festival of Estepona (FLEST), to be held from 27 to 29 June at the Mirador del Carmen Cultural Center, and that, as happened in its premiere last year, will again bring together big names in the culture of our country. Among the participants are the Cervantes Prize winner Sergio Ramirez, the writers Megan Maxwell and Esther Garcia Llovet, the journalist Manuel Jabois, the paleontologist Juan Luis Arsuaga, or the poets Elvira Sastre and Luis Garcia Montero, among others.

After the successful participation of its first edition, with more than 2,000 participants, the Estepona Literary Festival presents for this year a luxury lineup with prominent representatives of the letters, music, journalism, fashion or painting and illustration. The program also includes three concerts by the singer Soleá Morente, who will perform on Friday, June 27; Anni B Sweet, from Malaga, on Saturday, June 28; and the Catalan singer-songwriter María Rodés, who will close the festival on Sunday, June 29.

The day will close with a concert by Soleá Morente at 23.00 hours.

Saturday June 28 will begin with the painting workshop by Clara Cebrián and the meeting of Soleá Morente and Coco Dávez ‘On tradition and the future’. Both activities will take place at 12.00 noon.

In the afternoon, at 8 p.m., Lara Moreno and Martin Bianchi Tasso will talk about ‘The intimate and the published: city, society and privacy’.

In the section of meetings, starting at 9 p.m., the protagonists will be the writer Esther García Llovet and the writer and journalist Manuel Jabois.

An hour later, will take place the section reserved for poetry, ‘Encounters in the lighthouse’, by the poet Elvira Sastre.

On the other hand, the philosopher and astrophysicist Juan Arnau will give the talk ‘Introduction to sunny meditation’, based on his book ‘Sunny meditation’.

Juan Luis Arsuaga, one of the most renowned paleontologists in the world for his research at the Atapuerca sites, will hold a dialogue with journalist and writer Marta Fernández under the title ‘Life, conscience and other myths’, based on his particular literary project. This event will take place at 13.00 hours.

At 8:00 p.m., Hans Laguna will be discussing the figure of one of the most universal Spanish singers: Julio Iglesias, about whom he has published a renowned essay entitled ‘Hey Julio Iglesias and the Conquest of America’. In the talk ‘Julio Iglesias: legend, songs and truth’ will be accompanied by Alberto Moreno.

At 21.00 hours will take place one of the most anticipated activities, with the intervention of the renowned Nicaraguan writer, Cervantes Prize 2017, Sergio Ramirez.

At 22.00 hours the Estepona Literary Festival will close with a concert by singer-songwriter María Rodés.

Admission to these activities will be free until full capacity is reached.

The mayor has indicated that this second edition of this festival that brings together so many disciplines demonstrates the firm commitment that makes the City of Estepona for culture, thought and the arts. In that sense, he noted that a cultural facility such as the Mirador del Carmen makes it possible that the city can now host artistic events of such a high level and noted that it has become one of the cultural beacons of the province of Malaga throughout the year, for the quality of the exhibitions it hosts and the extensive program of activities offered in each quarter.

This festival has the collaboration of the Directorate General of Books and Promotion of Reading of the Ministry of Culture and Sport and the Obra Social ‘la Caixa’.
