Mayor meets with the Andalusian Athletics Federation to advance preparations for the first Estepona marathon

The sporting event will have an international character and will visit the most attractive areas of the municipality.
The mayor of Estepona, José María García Urbano, and the president of the Andalusian Athletics Federation, Enrique López Cuenca, held a meeting today to advance preparations for what will be the first marathon in the city.
It will be held on October 11, 2026 and will be a major mass sporting event, with a strong international character.
During the meeting, which was also attended by representatives of the Estepona Athletics Club, the mayor thanked the Andalusian Athletics Federation for their collaboration for this competition that will become a sporting milestone for the city.
The mayor explained that athletics has been consolidating in recent years as one of the sports that are generating more fans in the municipality. The construction of the Athletics Stadium, the possibilities offered by the coastal corridor as infrastructure for running enthusiasts or the celebration of events such as the Estepona Half Marathon, which has recently completed its fourth edition, are helping to make the city a benchmark for fans of this sport.
García Urbano has advanced that, although the final route of the test will still have to be designed, it will work so that it runs through the main enclaves of the city, such as the coastal corridor, which in 2026 will have completely united the 23 kilometers of coastline, the old town, the environment of the Botanical Park-Orquidario, or the Avenida Spain, among others.
Finally, the mayor of Estepona has expressed his satisfaction because the city will expand its wide range of sports with a very interesting level test, which will contribute to the name of the municipality is even more linked to athletics.
