The Estepona City Council calls on the central government to act quickly to repair the road surface of the A-7 highway, a key infrastructure for mobility throughout the Costa del Sol, which has major flaws, such as large potholes and potholes, which jeopardize the safety of thousands of drivers who travel daily through this point. The Mayor, José María García Urbano, has sent a letter to the Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, in which he requests to proceed “as soon as possible” to the execution of the necessary works of repair, maintenance and improvement of the asphalt in the affected section that runs through the municipality, in order to ensure adequate conditions of safety and circulation”.
The alderman describes the numerous flaws that currently presents the road, “with a significant deterioration of the asphalt, which is generating continuous discomfort to road users and, more worryingly, a risk to road safety. It is also stated that this situation “has been aggravated during this rainy season, with more than 300 points requiring intervention, according to the municipal technicians”.
This stretch of highway registers average traffic intensities that can exceed 65,000 vehicles per day and 100,000 in the main tourist seasons. “The poor maintenance of this road raises the risk of accidents because drivers make sudden maneuvers and braking to avoid these potholes and potholes that occur in the lanes of both directions,” the letter explains.
In view of this situation, the Town Council is receiving numerous complaints from neighbors, carriers and regular drivers, who are expressing their concern about the poor condition of the highway, requesting urgent action to repair it. For all these reasons, García Urbano claims to the Government to intervene as soon as possible to repair the damage, which will become more serious with the passage of time.
