The public may attend the general rehearsals of the Municipal Band of Estepona.

Those interested may attend the general rehearsals of the summer concerts on July 20 and 27 and August 3, 10 and 24, from 8:30 pm to 10:30 pm, in the Assembly Hall of the Palacio de Exposiciones y Congresos.

The Estepona City Council informs that the general rehearsals of the new season of the Summer Concerts of the Municipal Band will be open to the public.

Thus, people interested in living that experience, may attend the rehearsal room of the Band, in the Assembly Hall of the Palace of Exhibitions and Congresses, on Thursdays prior to the Sunday concerts, on 20 and 27 July and 3, 10 and 24 August, from 20:30 to 22:30 hours, until full capacity, which is limited to 100 spectators.

The Municipal Band will start the new season of Summer Concerts under the technical and artistic direction of its chief conductor, Maestro José Antonio López Camacho. The performances will take place every Sunday, at 21:00 hours, in the pavilion ‘Recinto Musical Maestro Navarro Mollor’ in the Plaza del Reloj, until August 27, with a varied program that includes original music for Band, zarzuelas, great classical works, modern popular music, and soundtracks of television series and films.

MUNICIPAL BAND OF ESTEPONA: 83 years of making music

To talk about the history of the Music Band of Estepona, Artistic and Cultural Heritage of the city, we have to go back to the early nineteenth century, where there was a real explosion of this type of musical groups throughout the country, based on the military formations that were the seedbed of the future musical societies of neighborhood character.

It was 1940 the year of its creation, with a total of twenty instruments from a military auction, with a cost of three thousand pesetas of the time and with 17 former musicians from previous groups of the city; that makes it one of the oldest uninterrupted band formations of the municipal bands that currently remain in the country.

Annually, the Band celebrates about thirty performances, among which are the massive concerts held at the Recinto Musical ‘Maestro Navarro Mollor’ in the Summer Season, the Portico of Holy Week, the concert of Santa Cecilia and the Extraordinary Christmas Concert, as well as ceremonial acts of the City Council, among others. Since July 2010, by competitive examination, the artistic technical director of the Municipal Band and Music Academy is José Antonio López Camacho.

In May 2015, the Municipal Band was elected by the M. I. Academy of Valencian Music to participate in the ‘Muestra Internacional de la Música Valenciana 2015’, and in the same year the 75th Anniversary of the re-foundation of the Municipal Band of Estepona was commemorated. On that occasion, the City Council dedicated a mural entitled “Aires de Música” by the artist Blanca Larrauri.

Also, the Sports and Cultural Foundation 24 Hours Sports, in the section of special mentions, awarded him the Golden Almenara Tower for his contribution to Culture, and the Plenary of the City Council of Estepona, unanimously, the highest award, with the imposition of the Gold Medal of the City, for being “the greatest exponent of musical and traditional cultural heritage of the popular feeling of the city”.
