The Year of the Bicycle in Estepona ends with the participation of almost 2,200 cyclists in the 12 editions of the Pedal Day held in 2023
With this municipal initiative, the City Council aims to encourage the use of bicycles and promote a city with a higher quality of life.
The Estepona City Council reports that a total of 146 cyclists participated on Sunday in the twelfth edition of the Pedal Day, an activity that concludes the program -2023, Year of the Bicycle in Estepona-.
In this municipal initiative, which has been aimed at both children and adults, a total of 2,181 people have participated in the twelve editions held throughout the year. The tenth edition -Pedalea por Mario-, in which funds were raised to pay for the treatment needed by a boy from Estepona with cerebral palsy, broke a record of participation, with almost half a thousand cyclists.
The bike rides have been held on the second Sunday of each month, with some exceptions, with a route of about 5 kilometers. Both the starting and finishing points have been held in emblematic places of the city in order to cover different areas and centers of the town. In this way, participants have been able to enjoy the revitalized enclaves of the municipality and the new spaces gained for pedestrians.
Each procession has been led and secured by members of the Local Police, volunteers from the Local Civil Protection Group and staff of the municipal delegation of Sports.
People who have participated in the day of the pedal, at least twice, have received a commemorative jersey of the year of cycling in Estepona 2023. The City Council has distributed a total of 550 jerseys. In addition, at the end of each bike ride, a bicycle was raffled among all participants.
The Estepona City Council is grateful for the great reception that this initiative has had, as well as the collaboration of the Club Unión Ciclista Virgen del Carmen, the company Fit Bike and the organizations UBUNTU and AND – Alejandro Navarro Deportista.
