The City Council awards diplomas to the young people who participated in the last edition of the free workshops on ‘Gardening’ and ‘Electricity, Plumbing and Masonry’.

The Mayor of Estepona, José María García Urbano, received today in the Plenary Hall the 16 students who have completed their training in the third edition of 2023 of this training program, and welcomed the students of the first edition of 2024.

The mayor of Estepona, José María García Urbano, today presented the diplomas to the 16 students who participated in the third and final edition of last year’s free workshops ‘Gardening’ and ‘Masonry, Plumbing and Electricity’, eight per course, offered by the City Council to young people aged 16 to 24 years. He also welcomed the 16 students of the first edition of 2024 of this municipal training program.

The group has completed the training cycle that has been developed for three months, a period in which they have received 250 hours of training, both theoretical and practical. The latter have been carried out in the concessionaire companies of the different municipal services, an initiative that was launched years ago and that allows students to make contact with the world of work and learn to solve the incidents and real situations that usually arise in the performance of their profession. The students have also expanded their knowledge by doing internships at the headquarters of some local associations, always under the guidance of a professional.

In addition, the students who have participated in the Gardening workshop have been instructed in the application of phytosanitary products, an essential qualification for working in this profession. The learning is completed with information and guidance for job search and informative talks on drug prevention, occupational hazards and fires in the home, as well as recreational and sports activities.

The Estepona City Council offers three editions of these two workshops each year, which are aimed at children who have not had access to vocational training or who have difficulties in finding a job. Thus, the objective pursued through this training in each of these professions, is to facilitate the social and labor integration of participants through their integration into a professional project. After the completion of these courses, a large number of students manage to enter the labor market.

The students who participate in these workshops are referred by the guidance counselors of the educational centers, by the parents of the students or by the interested parties themselves who contact the City Council. Registration is completely free and can be done throughout the year. Thus, young people from 16 to 24 years old can pick up their application at the municipal delegation of Social Services, Elderly and Social Integration, located in the Town Hall of Estepona.
