Successful celebration of the ‘III Women and Chess Day’.
The event counted with the participation of FIDE Master María Eizaguerri, Spanish Chess Champion.
The Estepona City Council informs that last Saturday 9th, was held at the facilities of the Hotel Ona Valle Romano Golf & Resort in Estepona, the ‘III Day of Women and Chess’, organized by the Villa de Estepona Chess Club (CAVE), in collaboration with the City Council, the Andalusian Chess Federation and the Chess Delegation of Malaga.
The day was attended by 40 players of all ages, and the protagonist was the FIDE Master María Eizaguerri, one of the great references of women’s chess in Spain.
The presentation ceremony was in charge of Celia Gillis, main coordinator of the event, accompanied by the councilor of Sports, Luis Miguel Gil Amores, the vice-delegate and member of the Women’s section of the Chess Delegation of Malaga, Rocío Mercado, and Fernando Postigo, president of the Chess Club Villa de Estepona.
During the first part, María Eizaguerri, current Spanish Rapid Chess Champion, gave a lecture in which she made a review of the most important and fundamental aspects of her career as a chess player, her experiences throughout tournaments all over the world, the current situation of women in the sport of chess in Spain and its future evolution in the next years.
Afterwards, Eizaguerri developed a simultaneous game against 16 players, mostly students of the Villa de Estepona Chess Club and the Municipal Chess School of Estepona, in which they demonstrated the good level of the local chess players.
