The initiative of the integral remodeling of this central thoroughfare, aimed at opening the ‘urban garden’ of the center of Estepona to the Mediterranean Sea, places Estepona at the forefront of sustainable cities that are committed to quality of life, the wellbeing of citizens, the environment and ample space for pedestrians.
In this way, Estepona joins its urban core and the heart of its economic and social activity with the tourist attraction of the sea, with the consequent revitalization of this strategic enclave of the municipality. Thus, the Avenida de España becomes a place of transition between the city and the sea, with a more pleasant, quiet, safe space, open to pedestrians and where nature predominates.
It also achieves a concept of a modern city open to the sea, which has another fundamental axis in the remodeled urban center of the city. In this regard, it should be remembered that in this area, during the last decade, a network of more than 130 streets have been renovated in the totality of their infrastructures and beautified, creating the powerful focus of urban revitalization that has been the result of the municipal initiative ‘Estepona, Jardín de Estepona’.
municipal initiative ‘Estepona, Garden of the Costa del Sol’. It is worth remembering that this boulevard, in its area closest to the Port of Estepona, has been complemented with the creation of a Balcony to the Mediterranean, through the redevelopment of a large public area, where a unique tower-viewpoint, the Mirador del Carmen Cultural Center, has been created.
The creation of this pedestrian boulevard was preceded by the creation of road infrastructures for alternative mobility, such as the creation of the northern ring road, which connects the urban center from its eastern access through the San José school to the northern area of the Parque Ferial-Auditorio-Estadio de Atletismo and its connection with the A7 highway.
