The Clock Square will host this Saturday a concert by the Wind Trio ‘San Paul Sinfonía’.
The performance will start at 8:30 p.m. and will be free of charge.
Estepona City Council informs that the Wind Trio ‘San Paul Sinfonía’ will perform this Saturday, July 20, at 20.30 pm, in the Plaza del Reloj. Access will be free. The trio consists of musicians Ian Judson (flute), Alex Birchall (oboe), and Jenni Britton (Cor Anglais). The three met playing in St Paul’s Sinfonia, a chamber orchestra based in Greenwich, London. They play together regularly on many different projects, operas and in a variety of venues in London and the south coast.
In this concert, organized by the Estepona Town Hall with the collaboration of the García Fajer Foundation, they will play a selection of well-known pieces by great composers such as Handel, Mozart, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Grieg and Piazzolla.
Alex Birchall began studying oboe at the age of 13 and devoted himself to all the musical activities his school and county had to offer. At 18 he moved to London to study at Trinity College of Music with David Thomas and Chris O’Neal. Alex has a busy freelance career as an orchestral musician performing not only in the UK but all over the world. He was invited to perform with the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra for a season as principal oboe. Highlights of this particular trip included playing at the FIFA World Cup draw and performing for Nelson Mandela. His musical activities have taken Alex Birchall throughout most of Europe, India and the United States. Performing at venues from the Royal Albert Hall, Notre-Dame de Paris to Walt Disney World in Florida. As a soloist he has performed at venues such as Birmingham’s Symphony Hall, Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall, St John’s Smith Square and the Pantheon in Rome.
He currently holds two teaching positions at Gray Coat Hospital School and Kensington Prep School. His work in recording, film and television includes ‘Ready, Steady, BLOW!’, a CD to inspire beginning oboists, a film called ‘First Night’ starring Richard E Grant and Sarah Brightman, an orchestral performance on BBC’s ‘The One Show’ and Mantra’s. The album ‘Every Defect’ reached number one in Uzbekistan.
Ian Judson began playing the flute at the age of 11 after many years of playing the recorder. He progressed quickly thanks to his amazing first teacher, Helen Bailey. He played all the time and was desperate to join his school orchestra. He participated in many music festivals and played in many ensembles. He continued his studies at the Welsh College of Music and Drama and studied with Douglas Townsend (BBC Welsh) and Jonathan Burgess (WNO). While at Cardiff, Ian won several awards including the WCMD Woodwind award, the 20th Century competition and the HTV award for further study. He then moved to London to study with Sebastien Bell at the Royal Academy of Music and Anna Noakes. He is now a freelance flautist and teacher in London.
Since graduating from university, Ian has established a prolific career as a flautist. He has worked with St Paul’s Sinfonia, West London Sinfonia, Concert Orchestra of London, Dionysus Ensemble, Taunton Sinfonietta, Sinclair Sinfonia and Welsh National Opera. As a soloist he has performed Bach’s Suite in B minor, Brandenburg Concerto No. 5, Martin’s Ballade, Ibert’s Concerto, Mozart’s Concerto for flute and harp. He has given numerous recitals with a variety of chamber ensembles, all over the world, as well as on cruise ships and at the South Bank Centre in London. She is currently a flutist with the London Children’s Ballet, St Paul’s Sinfonia and has recently performed with the Apollo Chamber Orchestra, Hampstead Garden Opera, Blaze Ensemble and at St Martin’s-in-the Fields and Royal Albert Hall.
Jenni Britton combines work as a performer and teacher and has enjoyed performing nationally and internationally in orchestras and chamber ensembles. Personal highlights include tours of China, India and the Seychelles, as well as radio and television broadcasts. She is co-director of oboe in Covent Garden Sinfonia. As a chamber musician she has performed on BBC Radio 3’s ‘In Tune’ program. She was a founding member of the award-winning London Myriad Ensemble, with whom she performed in the Purcell Room. He received the Wilfred Hambleton Award for his contribution to wind music (2003) while at Trinity College of Music. As a soloist, he has performed works by Marcello, Vaughan-Williams, Albinoni and Mozart.
He has worked with the education and outreach department of the BBC Concert Orchestras and with the Philharmonia’s outreach program.
