The City Council cleans and clears 94 kilometers of rural roads and plots to prevent forest fires.

The operational brigade of Agriculture carries out this work throughout the year but intensifies during the summer period.

The Consistory also acts in a subsidiary manner on private land where their owners do not comply with the protection regulations.

The City Council of Estepona has undertaken, so far this year, works for the maintenance, cleaning and clearing of rural roads, ditches and plots in about 94 kilometers throughout the municipality.

The municipal operational brigade of Agriculture is responsible for carrying out these tasks, which are executed preventively throughout the year to prevent forest fires, incidences of heavy rainfall or visibility problems for drivers traveling on these roads.

Although the works are mainly focused on clearing and maintenance of the margins of roads, streams and rivers, the operational services of the City Council also carry out pavement repair work, maintenance of municipal plots and private land, where they are executed in a subsidiary manner. So far this year, a total of 83,627 meters of roads and 2,614 meters of rivers and streams have been cleared. Likewise, a total of 11.58 hectares of land has been cleared, with a perimeter of 7,175 meters. As for pavement repair, a total of approximately 9,791 meters have been worked on.

As of today, the brigade is carrying out another thirty or so actions, including new work reports and maintenance work. These will be joined, after the summer period, by tasks for cleaning and clearing the beds of streams and rivers that run through urban sections. The objective is to free these spaces from obstacles that could impede their normal drainage, while also avoiding the formation of blockages that could cause flooding in the event of heavy rainfall. The City Council is only competent to act in the channels that are in urban areas, while the Junta de Andalucía is responsible for the maintenance of those that run in other areas of the municipality.

From the City Council of Estepona is an appeal to the public about the importance of respecting the environment and avoid depositing or throwing waste that contaminate these enclaves.
